Some states in the USA ban all rifles for shooting deers, others only allow straight walled cartridges, others have minimum caliber restrictions. Political edicts are not unusual. Politicians pander to the masses who are only concerned with immediate daily life but what would happen if automobiles & trucks having engines greater than 2,000 CCs were banned? Should you need to affect a certain, humane, harvest of legal wildlife resources use enough gun. I would go to jail if I had a pistol brace. There is a big difference between dictating what round you can use for hunting and an outright ban on a particular round. No diff whatsoever - a ban is a ban, enforced by government authority - ban on any basis or description- ballistics or cartridge or hunting or public safety or political correctness or social acceptance (sick to own). Select what works best. Take the initiative to ban then let the courts resolve the issue. ATF reg on pistol braces? You will not go to jail for having a pistol with a brace. This is a rule by the ATF and not a law. It's unconstitutional and will be completely shut down. Is this true? According to the final rule, gun owners who possess braced firearms will have 120 days to destroy, reconfigure, register, turn in their firearms to ATF, or face NFA violations which include $250,000 in fines and a hefty prison sentence. Have people been arrested & jailed & then posted bail for violating NFA and await trial where they could be sent to prison? Arrest - handcuffs - jail - bail - trial. Take the initiative to ban then let the courts resolve the issue. Liberal politicians don't like firearms & use any number of tools to restrict use & availability. No problem to modify ban based on cartridge name, legislate a ban based on ballistics like bullet weight & velocity to include undesirable wildcats (they call this "brainstorming").
