Has anyone used RL 23 in a 243win? Specifically with 85g Barnes TSX. I have 8# of RL 23 that I would like to use. Opinions on possible charge weights or tell me if its not an option are fine. Thanks in advance.

I have no experience with Reloder 23 in 243 Win, but on the surface, it does not appear to be a good match at least for lighter weight bullets. Alliant lists load data with 100 grain or higher bullets. Barnes web site does not list Reloder 23 for any of their 6mm bullets.

It's too slow for a .243 with anything lighter than a 100gr bullet. I use RL23 in my .284 and it's about the same burn rate or a little slower than H4831. I tried IMR 4831 in my .243 with 87s and with pressure I was 50fps behind my load with IMR 4451. IMR 4831 is inbetween H4350/IMR 4451 and RL23 and it didn't work, so RL23 won't be very suitable.

I used alot of rl23 with the 105 and 108s. Case fill is pretty full. The 85 grainer is not going to reach full pressure before you run out of case capacity. 45 to 46 grains got 3175 out of them. Rl23 is a great powder in alot of other cartridges. Just go to 100 grain bullets and let her eat.
