I need a new .177 or .22 or .25 airgun for pesky squirrels & starlings.
What is the difference between gas piston or spring?
Which one should I try?
Thanks, Kirk

P.S. I currently have a Gamo >177 but it is getting very old.

Caliber is your choice.
Gas or spring, for the money, a GOOD spring gun will be cheaper because of production. A gas piston will cost more to produce, but GOOD ones can be adjusted for velocity. A spring gun can be tuned and a quality gun will last you for years and years before needing a tune or rebuild, which is cheaper than a gas ram.

Your pocket and what it can handle is your limit.
Spring guns, RWS Mod 34 comes in .177 and .22. RWS guns are good guns.
Moving up in the class of spring guns, Air Arms TX200 .177 or .22 are stellar, as is the Beeman 97, HW 97K, and the Walther LGU.

Get a good scope and rings or one piece mount and practice. Aspirins at 25 yards will be dust.

Good luck.

Definitely a thumbs up on the Hawke scopes. I have one on my RWS model 34, and one on my crossbow. Both are excellent scopes well worth the money.
