This bull was marking his territory in Rocky Mountain National Park this past September. I also watched him peel bark with his teeth.

So next time you walk past a grove of trees that have been shredded, you can think of this photo!

I've seen 'em rub a lot. Mostly in a rutting frenzy on smaller stuff. Hadn't really thought of the big rubs as marking territory. This is a more deliberate sort of thing?

Fantastic picture.

I have only been elk hunting once, we saw lots of animals, but nothing up close and personal. We got two 5x5 and a cow last year.
