If you go into the wilderness ypu must expect there are dangerous animals. You should go in thinking you WILL encounter one. I don’t hunt anymore but when I did my eyes were always fixed on the down wind side of the trail. Always looking into bush and bramble. I had my 3 foot experience with a mother black bear 3’ behind me and her cub 6’ in front of me when I was young and foolish. I was lucky. I never left it to luck again. The government will not, and you should not expect them to warn you. As a previous post stated. It is about power. Those directing this play know there will be tragic human/animal encounters. They need them. And when they have enough of them they will close area after area to hunting for your safety. But the “its about power and politics” guy was dead wrong about that being the answer. Our opponents are a cliche clic. Its all sound bites. They are told what to say and they go about spreading that word- Obama was the best President ever- Trump is a crook- Conservatives hate african Americans, etc. Not only do we allow it, we do it too. Its about politics is not an answer to “its about balance.” Its like when your child asks you how you win at chess and you say, “why you capture your opponent’s King” That is when you win a chess game, not HOW you win a chess game. The problem with automaton predation by wolves and bears in a artificially contrived game population is that after a bad winter or drought we can moderate the take numbers and seasons. But with wolves that have already had a disproportionate effect on yarded animals in a bad winter, the damage continues in fawning season and that damage becomes generational. If we are willing to let NATURE establish the balance, entire herds may decline to levels not seen since the 50-60s and bag limits fall to save the wolf.
