Once you have your shotgun set up for 40+ yards, the door opens up for additional decoy arrangements that a tom may not have seen before. One that I like to do on fields is to put the hen decoy within about 10 - 15 yards of your position and a jake decoy out ~ 35 yards in the field. I know that seems like a long way, but that isolated jake in the field drives toms nuts. I have taken a number of toms that way. They will not go for the hen decoy. They will go aggressively after the jake decoy.

Be warned. If you do arrange your decoys like this, the tom may never come any closer than the jake decoy. Plan for a 35 - 45 yard shot.
