red hunter Not exactly, the Barnes is a monolithic bullet, all copper construction, the Partition is a bonded bullet, constructed with a harder lead base, and a nose thats slightly softer whcih allows it to expand and peel back around the base. They are guarenteed to retain 60% of their original weight. They work as stated. As my earlier post says I have used the Sierra's in the past, as well as the Barnes Original and TSX. The all copper bullets are infamous for deep penetration but not always great expansion. My experience with them has been exactly that. Lots of people use the Bergers because they are typically very accurate. They are supposidly designed to penetrate a few inches then pretty much expand very rapidly and fragment. There have been more than a few reports of elk particulary, not laying down with a shoulder shot because while the bullet destroyed the shoulder meat and muscle it did not penetrate and break the shoulder bone. They apparently (I have not killed an animal with them) make quite a mess on the inside when they do what they are designed to do. Thats my take on it with 50+ years in the field and lots of deer and elk on the ground!
