6.5 creedmoor with 100 ELD-M

why not...I have a couple of boxes of 100 amax but havent tried em yet...nice thing about the creed is its a great all around cartridge. I like my rifle and like to shoot it so why not heat up the bbl on some varmints for fun.

I have 2 rifles chambered in 6.5cm one has a 26" barrel and the other one has an 18.5" barrel.
I've tried 100 gr amax on both with very different results. The 26" barrel loves them, super accurate out to 500m and the short one hates them. I can't get less than 2moa groups and mv is super slow, somewhere around 2900fps. I get more than that using 140's out of the 26" barrel.

I'm going to pick up a box of the 95gr V-Max and 100gr ELD-M and see if one shoots better then the other. First I was thinking the ELD-M with the slightly higher B.C. but at the ranges I plan on shooting B.C. is irrelevant, I just want an explosive varmint bullet for out to around 300 yards.

My dad is using the 95 vmax in his 260 Ackley with 20" barrel and getting around 3350 feet per second and excellent accuracy. Using a creedmoor chamber, I would anticipate approximately 200fps loss and maybe another 50 due to shorter barrel length of 18" ... pure speculation on what you'll get for muzzle velocity but I would think you should have no worries getting it to 3000 fps. That is way more than enough to use well past 300 yards.

LGS was out of 100gr ELD-M but did have the 95gr V-MAX.
Loaded up some test rounds with Varget and H4895. Weather permitting I'll try them out this weekend.
I did shoot last weekend and shot some 140 and 130 Berger H-VLD loads I use in my other rifles, 2600fps and 2725fps and both under 1/2 MOA@200yards
I know the rifle is a good shooter, hopefully it'll like the V-MAX.

You may wish to consider trying RL-17 or H100V with the 95's and 100's. Both powders are known to work well in short barrels and should give you good load density.

I have been working with RL-17 and the 95 VMAX's in my modern-actioned 6.5x55. Though max is north of 3600 from a 26" barrel, best accuracy seems to be showing up in the mid-3400's at very sedate pressures.

With your setup, 3250ish should be achievable. That would give you drop and drift numbers roughly equivalent to book data for a fast twist 22-250 shooting 69's. Not bad from an 18" barrel.

Got out today and tried both Varget and H4895 with 95gr V-MAX @2.625 oal.
H4895 shot a little better and both powders gave me 3200ish fps. I'll play around with powder charge weights but the stubby bullet doesn't leave much room for seating depth change.
Thanks everyone.

Thought I would add another 6.5 reference, Not running a creed , but a 6.5x47 with the 100 Amax for yote and crows, found 4166 produced good speed and accuracy out of a 20" barrel, 2990 with 37g imr 4166; makes'em go pop!

Makes me wonder if anyone has tried larger bullets in a 6.5 with 4166 in long barrels. I have an Ackley at a comfortable 2950 with a 30 inch barrel.

I tried 4166 with 130's and 140 hybrids on match rifle and the speed was not as good as varget, the heavies most of the time have liked slower powders, with varget being the tried and true powder with my 47's, 4166 seams to pressure up quicker
