My barrel is 27 3/4" from the breach face to the muzzle. It is all that could be gotten out of a 28" blank by the smith. It is on a Rem. 700 action. This rifle has a really tight chamber. Cases last a looooooooog time and running them through a FL sizer really only neck sizes them with a slight shoulder bump. I shoot 66.5 grs Retumbo, in Winchester cases that have been made from 7mm Rem mag cases just run through the 264 Win mag FL sizer, fired by CCI 250 primers shooting 130 Nosler Accubonds seated 20 thousands off the lands. I average 3350 fps and 3 shots at 100 yards land in a ragged hole well under 1/2". This rifle and load is used mainly as a bean field deer rifle. I can't remember how many deer I have killed with this rifle but we will say 25+ from 30 yards to right at 500 yards. All have been DRT and I have only recovered one bullet because all others were exits. This one bullet was shot into a good size buck at 111 yards that was facing me with just a slight left shoulder facing me angle. Bullet entered edge of left scapula smashing it and taking out the vitals and was found in the smashed ball socket of the right ham. Recovered bullet was a text book mushroom and weight was 87 grs. Deer fell on its butt and collapsed on its side dead as a hammer at the shot. It don't get much better than that.
