243 or 25-06

Sounds like the OP has settled on the 243.

Don't overlook imr-4064 for 85-87gn bullets. Velocities are 3120ish from a 22" tube, and accuracy is excellent. My tikka puts 5 in a group that can be covered with a dime. RL-17 easily pushes this weight bullet over 3200, but the accuracy is not as good. My 243 only eats 85/87s for deer and preditor management.

We have 25-06 shooters running our 92g Hammer Hunters 3500-3600fps with outstanding results. With this bullet weight and velocity I vote for the 25-06 and you can use it for any animal.

My choice would definitely be 25-06. I've shot a Remington 700 Varmint and Sako Finnbear both for over 40 years with bullets ranging from 75 gr Sierra HPs @ 3800 fps for coyotes to 115 gr VLDs and 120 gr NPs and both rifles are still shooting under .5". Many young hunters and women from my camps have harvested deer and hogs with these 2 rifles.....it's a Great Caliber and I'll never be without one! Just my $.02!

25-06 all the way for me. If your worried about the hides or saving powder then use something like a 204, 22-250 or one of other 22 calibers. You can run ballistic programs all day long, compare powder capacity, recoil and what ever else, but at the end of the day its going to be you hit or missed your target. If a 243 gives you that confidence and results time after time, go for it. For me and a few other 25 caliber crazy's, the fast hard hitting power of the 25-06 is magic.
