Shot my first big game animal. Heck, my first animal period this last month. a good 6x6 bull elk taken at 1186 yards. This shot was something i practiced more times than i care to recall. but i know my equipment. 300 WM desert tech srs. with berger 215 bullets using norma brass and H1000 loaded at 76.5 and moving 2936fps.
I would like to thank Shane Scott Outfitting in RIchfield Ut for helping on this hunt. I told them i wanted a long shot, and they provided it. THis bull was pushing over the top of the mountain at just about 10000 ft and i only had a few seconds as he walked between trees. Couldnt have asked for a better first hunt, Im hooked!!!

Here is the only photo I have of that rifle. We hiked up and retrieved that bull, but didn't carry the rifle up to him. Lesson learned.

Way to get it done. If you want to shoot long like this, you have to put your time in and be fully dedicated and know your equipment and how it will perform in many different scenarios. It's good to see people that actually put in the time necessary to be proficient at these extended ranges, as many people do not, and end up wounding animals, then blame the bullet or some other component of the system other than their own ability for their failure.

If your going to do something, do it right, and that you certainly did. Keep it up, and welcome to the hunting community!!

Congratulations, that's a great shot. I've only recently got into long range hunting and building for peak accuracy just for an elk hunt this year. I'm still going to be limiting myself to 600 yards for ethical shots as of right now but one day Id like to confidently do the same as you.

Awesome bull great shooting my first elk hunt scheduled for next year hope i even see one that nice.

what do you suppose your impact velocity and energy looked like at that range? that's a great shot, awesome feeling I'm sure.
velocity at impact was still 1635fps and Energy was 1232 ft lbs. was plenty to get it done. anything over 1000 is still in the safe zone for ethical kill shots.
