Scope cover

What type of scope cover do you prefer for backpack hunting? It needs to keep the scope clean and dry in dark timber but be able to quickly be pulled to shooting position for a snap shot!

Edit: i don't like these covers, too thick of material below scope between the action. I am now using a scopecoat.

I prefer the neoprene full covers (over scope caps) as the e-bay site in this thread shows. They protect the scope from moderate bumps and from rain and snow.

But if you mean scope caps then I've switched to Vortex caps which are more rugged than Butler Creek caps and also can hold a plastic ballistics card inside the ocular cap. Very handy!

Butler Creek Flip-Open Scope Cover

I use the Butler Creek flip ups on one of my rifles and the Leupold Aluminas on another. Quick and easy on both.

I did try this cove on a new rifle, honestly I'm not that happy with the set up. I think I will try the alumina caps next.

I've tried the butler creek caps but they don't hold up to the abuse that I evidently put my scope through. I literally broke one every time I went out on a hunt. I have switched to the scope coat neoprene covers and like them but I need to figure out a way to keep it tethered to the weapon.

I have come to prefer neoprene scope covers over flip caps. I find them just as fast to remove, they don't break off, are more protective, and you won't forget the covers are down at the wrong time().

I prefer the Scope Coat covers. Easy on and off and cover well. The flip caps always seem to pop open when working through thick timber and brush when carrying the rifle on your back. Sucks when your scope is full of snow before you figure out that the scope cover opened up. Also have notice that in a close quarters situation that the 'pop' that the flip cap makes when you open it will alert the game to your presence.

Scope Coat

I suggest a guy make his own scope coats. I have one for each of my scoped rifles. Not very hard to do.

I bought a scope coat 2 weeks ago. I would have loved to check out the handmade guy! However the Scopecoat is a nice economical way to go with scope protection and I can rip it off and be ready to shoot in an instant.
