I have a .260 AI built on a trued rem 700 action, a PTG 1 piece bolt with mill spiral fluting and melonite coated the whole thing. It's a shooter, and the bolt isn't stiff, but when I open the bolt...if I don't have the bolt lifted all the way up(holding up pressure on the bolt handle) it won't open very well, and acts like it's hanging up. I don't have a lot of rounds on the gun, so I'm hoping it will smooth out, I'm just curious if anyone knows what is keeping my bolt from "snapping" into open like a factory 700 does. I know my other guns kind of finish the last half inch or so of lift for you when working the bolt. any suggestions or reasons it may be this way would be appreciated.

1. Check the Front action screw first to see if it is too long and dragging on the lug as it is unlocking.
2. Check mag. follower may be dragging the fluting on the bolt. Was the rails opened as part of the build for the improved cartridge. Allowing the follower to raise and drag on bolt.

3. Check, The coating may have changed the tolerance some place in the action.

Is the "hanging" every time you open the bolt, or just after firing/dry firing? If it's only after firing/dry firing you could have a primary extraction issue. I had a similar problem after truing my R700. Finally had to send it to Chad at LRI to re-time the bolt handle. Problem solved.

So, just talked to my gunsmith. Turns out PTG cuts their anti cant groove in the recoil lug fairly tight. The leading edge of the small groove had a small bur on it. I worked that edge down and it made a huge difference. According to him PTG bolts have this issue from time to time due to their tighter tolerances vs the remington actions. It should get better and better
