7/08AI or 6.5 Creedmore

Ok guys in trying to compare the two I am a bit confused to all the rage about the creedmore and asking for a little help. My daughter who just turned 13 has a 7/08AI and she loves it. Shes real thin and the gun is about 8 lbs scoped littel to know recoil pad and has no problem shooting it with 120 ttsx running 3150. My son who is now 9 and already handles the recoil of a 20 gauge 870 is wanting to shoot more and researching a rifle for him. I have a 280 forbes may try work up a reduced recoil load for or maybe even sell. Inrigued by the creedmore but not sure if just better to get another 7/08. Shots as he gets older will be under 500 yards. Although he has not problem hitting a 8" gong now with his 223 at 320. want something can grow into I guess. thoughts thanks

I love my 6.5 Creedmoor. Very little recoil especially when running the 130 Berger.
But..... It's hard to deny the 7-08 AI running a 162 ELD it will walk all over the Creedmoor. But recoil is a little more, if I was comp shooting I would go with the Creed so I could spot my shots easier. Hunting it would be the 7-08 AI.

I have 4 6.5 Creedmoor in various configurations.
The Creedmoor has match/hunting factory ammo at reasonable prices so it's a great round for the non reloader. I see ammo for it everywhere I go.
Long range ballistics are better with the 7/08, and even better with the AI version.
But you said shots at 500 or less so that won't matter much, the 7/08AI will hit harder/shoot flatter.
Barrel on the 6.5 Creedmoor will last longer then the 7/08AI as he learns to shoot out farther.
6.5 Creedmoor is a little cheaper to load for but not enough in my opinion to pick one over the other.
You are already set up for the 7/08AI so I would go that route.

260rem AI maybe just what your looking for

I think the rage for the creed is handloaders only make up a small percentage if the shooting world and the creed has readily available factory ammo at a reasonable price. To top it off it's good ballistics just make it a bonus for the people who don't reload but still want good ballistics. Can't run to the store and grab a box of match grade 7mm-08 AI.

No denying the 7mm-08 AI definitely has the advantage over the creed. But the creed will take less powder and give out less recoil and also have better barrel life as mentioned before. It really depends what your looking for. The 7mm-08 AI with a 162 eld-m would be a killer round for sure. I considered the 7mm-08 but chose the creed mainly because I had the stuff from a previous rifle and also the selection of high bc 6.5 pills is better than 7mm.

Yep... .260 AI or 7mm-08 gets my vote. My first deer rifle was a 7mm-08 when I was about 10. Great cartridge.

Either one will get the job done with the right bullet at the range you want to shoot (500 yards). It's kind of a personal choice.

You can always make the 7/08 act like the crudmore but not vice versa..this is easy, the standard 7/08 all day everyday....put a 140 grain partition or x-bullet and she's ready for anything..have fun.

If you reload look into the 6.5X47. Extremely accurate with very little recoil. It will have maybe a few fps less than a 260 or Creed. But many times will run right with both of them.

Thanks for all the info guys. Interestinggna lot of you brought up the heavier bullets hadn't thought about it that way. Never planned on anything But 120s and 140s! Having a STW and a Forbes 280 the creed does super cool for praxticing and namginnsteel way out

If your only shooting 140s out of a 7mm -08 then you'll definitely come up short of the Creed at longer ranges. Really need to shoot a 162 or bigger.

Is this due to the higher SD of the 6.5 bullets? Cause from what I've read the muzzle velocity of the AI is higher ?

Due to a higher Ballistic coefficient of the 140 6.5 pill vs the 140 7mm pill. Out to 500 you probably won't notice much of a difference between the 2. However when you get into the high BC 162+ grain 7mms then the bc will equal or better a 140 6.5 pill thus being a superior round down range than the 6.5 as long as the proper velocity is maintained. In this case the 7mm-08 AI will easily out run a 6.5 creedmoor with say a 162 Hornady eld-match vs a 6.5 creedmoor with a 140 eld-match due to the 7mm-08 AI higher velocity and higher BC.

Makes sense so if 600 or
Under with 140s not much to decide and if find a good deal on either will be money?
