Gun Werks REVX

Dang, over a 130 views and not one reply. Guess people must not know about them? Or not have anything good to say?

I picked up one in 30 Nosler, doing load work up now.

So far I really like the rifle. The stock is perfect for me, vertical grip, wide fore end, no need for a raised cheek piece.

I got the 3G unfluted barrel, it measures .670 at the muzzle which I think is a great balance between light and not too thin.

Action is smooth, cycles rounds nicely, only downside is the ejection is a little weak but adequate. I would prefer a little stronger spring on the ejector.

The trigger tech trigger was a bit heavy when it arrived but I easily adjusted it down as low as it would go which is about 1.5 lbs and breaks very crisp.

I have not measured the mag box but it looks to be over 3.75", 30 nosler brass with 215's seated to the lands has about 1/4" or more room left in the box.

One other thing I like is the reamer they used. The boat tail junction sits just a hair above the shoulder/neck junction. The neck only expands .003 after firing and the shoulder expands .004 after firing so everything is sized perfectly in my opinion.

Bare rifle weighed 7 lb 15 oz. With a NF 5.5-22x50 with NF low rings and a NF bubble level it weighs 10 lbs 1 oz. Again, a perfect weight for an all around hunting rifle in my opinion, not too heavy to carry, not too light to be inaccurate.

I have been shooting 215 bergers with retumbo so far. The best for accuracy in virgin brass has been 84.3 grains (about .75 MOA) but it is a little too hot of a load. I get a faint ejector mark on the brass and speeds are around 3095 fps out of a 25" barrel.

Next load I am going to try is 82 grains, hopefully this will do about 3000 fps with the same accuracy.

Load development has been difficult after work with the extreme temps we have been experiencing lately.

Overall, I really like the rifle and I think it is a decent value if you like the components, which I do. Hopefully after I get about 100 rounds through the barrel it will settle in. So far it has been a little erratic but like I said it has been dang hot for load development. If I can find a load that is a repeatable 1/2 MOA or better it will be my new favorite rifle.

More to come later.

Awesome, please keep us posted to any updates. I have 2of their LR1000 setups. In 6.5-284 absolutely lights out shooters. I am looking for something to carry in the truck for daily shooting. Don't want to shoot the barrels out in my 6.5-284. So I am thinking of getting one in 6.5 creedmoor. I am in the woods driving around everyday for work. My hope is that the fit will be very similar to the LR1000. The sales rep I deal with at Gun werks told me yesterday that the creedmoor's are shooting in the .4's with factory hornady 140 eldm. Sounds like the guns they have been using for a few years at their shooting school.

I shot these after work today, it was 102 degrees and the rifle and ammo were in the truck all day. Got to the range and shot two rounds, the top right and bottom left holes. Then I put the rifle in the truck with the AC on it for 5 minutes and fired the other two.

Next time out I will zero at 200 and get some numbers from the Magneto speed.

Load was 82 grains of Retumbo, F215 primer, 215 hybrid at .030 jump, virgin brass.

Group measured .63 inches, pretty happy with that if it stays consistent

I handled one of these in a 6.5 Creedmoor at Cabela's in Thornton, CO and it was a nice rifle for sure. The fit and finish were solid and the stock is fantastic. It was a little heavier than I would have liked though. That said, I do think there are better options out there for less money. If these were $1,500 less I would have brought that one home.

I have come to the conclusion that this rifle does not like retumbo. I have been getting major POI shifts, not to mention the clean cold bore shot has been way off. No consistency what so ever from day to day with the same load.

Couple days ago I did a quick ladder with H1000 that looked decent so I loaded up a few at 78, 78.5 and 79 with 215 primers and 215 Hybrids.

This morning the best load was 79 grains, it shot .8 inches center to center at 200 yards.

Going to shoot two tomorrow at 200 yards to confirm zero and then try a few further out to see if holds together.

The first shot was a clean cold bore and these 4 shots were shots 1, 4, 7 and 10 while doing a round robin test with the three loads. No wind to speak of this morning. The last shot of the 5 I shot over the Magnetospeed and speed was 2915 fps. Anything between 2900 and 3000 will be fine with me.

So I loaded up a couple rounds at 79 grains of H1000 with the 215 hybrid.

Got to the range this morning before work and placed a target at 200 yards and fired one shot cold bore. Happy with the result I put three dots at 424 yards and fired two shots each at 79, 79.2 and 79.4.

I only put 4 moa in the scope for the first two (I thought it was 400 yards but it was actually 424 yards). After the first two hit low I ranged the target and put another minute in the scope for a total of 5 MOA. I had a little left to right wind at the target but none from shooting position so I put 1.5 MOA windage in the scope also.

Pretty happy with the results.

I have a few I am going to shoot at 900 tomorrow cold bore and see how they do.

Velocity is only 2915 fps but that gives me plenty of speed and energy out to 1200 yards and should be easy on the brass, recoil isn't bad either.

Going to try RL26 next.
