Given a choice, I'd pick the 7mm rem mag over the '06 every time. Factory ammo is almost as plentiful, at least in the western states, if you are not a handloader. OTOH, a crf '06 makes a great donor to build something interesting on.......

Don't think it would work. The '06 and 280 are "standard" cases .473 diameter, while the 7mm remag is a "magnum", or .532 diameter. In a crf action like the win, it'd be fairly easy to go from small to large, but large to small would require a different bolt. If a bolt could be obtained ($$)...

Brent- One thing I found interesting on the ones like yours I viewed this weekend. They all had the plastic button, front of trigger guard bolt release, and the small bolt handle w/ the molded in checkering panel. I much prefer the way yours is configured.

Bounty Hunter- The 6.5x284's I looked at this weekend were long action. The 116 FCSS? and the 111 LRH. Don't know about throating issues. That's the first I've heard of this, but I'm new to Savages. I do have a 16 sporter 243, that you can seat bullets way out on. I wasn't sure about the single...

I got the model 22 Phoenix. Sorry, not tech savvy enough for pics. Matte blue action, 26" stainless 8-twist bbl, black/red webbed stock w/ vented forearm. It came w/ a factory mounted Farrell 20 moa base. I don't know if this is a good base or not, but I looked them up and retail is $118. Nice...

Thanks again Brent, I had seen your pic on Savageshooters but couldn't tell about bolt knob, release, etc. I much prefer the side release to the goofy little button in front of the tag. Gonna have to make a road trip this weekend and check one out.

Thanks Brent, I was hoping you could tell me about a couple details. You mentioned the bolt handle, is it the larger, smooth knob, or the smaller "checkered" one? Also, how does the bolt release? On the side or trigger guard? Oh and is it blind mag,detach, or ????
