    Buck Fever

Preach on, Bucklowery! I still get excited too! Right before I pull the trigger I have to say in my head, "Steaks". Helps me focus on the shot, not what's on its head. Don't lose your excitement!

    25-06…. Barnes 100gr TTSX Vs Hornady 110gr ELD-X

I have taken a lot of deer with Barnes buleets since 1991, and my bull. I worked at Barnes and shot their #3 loading manual data as well as all daily function and accuracy testing. I have not shot the ELD-X. I truly don't think, like the other replies, you will make a bad choice with either...

How did everyone do? Got pictures?

Wish I could say this was mine, but I work with the shooters brother. 40" 10x9 Eastern Oregon. Check out the eye guards, look like elk brown tines!

    Weirdest Deer

Very nice buck! Too bad the mass wasn't on both sides.

Here's some pics of my 3xWTF blacktail from 2021. 338-06, 200gr Hornady SST.

    Barnes lrx

James, I shot the data for Barnes #3 reloading manual and worked in their ballistics lab for 5 years, 2000-05.i have hunted using Barnes bullets exclusively since 1991 until recently when time to reload and shoot is not as convenient. I have killed deer and elk with them in calibers from 223 Rem...

    I drew my Oregon tag!

Congrats man! I'm an Oregon boy too, drew Grizzly unit for deer. Live in Sisters so scouting will be easy. Keep us posted with pics hopefully.

    Just curious gentlemen !

I truly appreciate any hunter who can put in the time and practice enough to be proficient at ELR shooting and make an ethical shot. I thought I would be a hunter to do that also. However, now in my 50's the realization that you have to go retrieve your animal the extra 1/2 mile or more, then...

    Trying to decide on caliber

If you are buying off the shelf, any 7mm, or 300 WSM. If you are building a custom, I'm prejudice, don't overlook the 338-06. I rebarreled my Win 70 Fwt from 280 Rem to 338-06 with 24" Fwt contour PacNor. 2800fps with 200gr Hornady SST and easy to carry, moderate recoil. Can closely duplicate...

What’s your favorite caliber for deer?

I think you're on the right track! 257 Wby will work, but shot placement is critical. 7mm-08 with 140-150 gr sturdy bullets, or 308 with 150-168gr would be even better. Just my thoughts. Best of luck on the hunt.

    Utah cow and Barnes TSX

Stick with Barnes. Dead is dead. I worked for Barnes in the early 2000's and shot their number 3 reloading manual data. The Ttsx are a better choice. Barnes doesn't design their bullets for postal loss like hammer and cutting edge. Back when I was shooting for them the bullets that Federal...

    Best Caliber Rifle Elk

Welcome to the group! You don't mention if you are wanting factory, or you handload and are looking to build. If factory I would say 300 WSM. If you are doing a build, don't over look the 338-06. You can closely duplicate 300 Win Mag ballistics with 10% larger and 5% heavier .338 185gr...

    Trying to decide on caliber

The cartridges you listed are all great choices. The 7SAUM, is it if the 280AI is an option. Nearly equal performance with less powder and recoil with the AI. If you are building a rifle and handload don't overlook the 338-06. Only loose 150-200 fps to the 338 Win mag. Animal doesn't know the...

What’s your favorite caliber for deer?

Didn't read all posts, but have to throw my thoughts in the ring. For years my go to was 280 Rem, or any 7mm. After spending 7 years shooting in ballistics labs for 2 large bullet manufacturers, I fell in love with the 338-06. Finished a rebarrel build on a Win 70 Fwt with 24" Fwt contour...

What’s your favorite caliber for deer?

Initial favs were 280 Rem and 7mm Rem mag both loaded with Barnes X and TTSX 140gr. New love is 338-06 on recent remarried Mod 70 Fwt. Always impressed with performance gain by simply needing up the tried and true 30-06. Getting 2800fps with 200gr in 338-06, same as 180gr in parent cartridge...
