I have booked an Alaskan Coastal Brown Bear Hunt

The boots I use are Solomon 4D GTX 2 boots. I would call these mid weight boots. They are waterproof and light. Worth a look. For clothing, I've become a Kuiu fan boy. I love the attack pants, they are a dream to hike in and loaded with features. I use the Helly Hansen Impertech rain...

What to buy if Hillary wins

Amen. My wife and I just made Colorado Great Again. I'm buying a few stripped lowers. If I had a dollar for everyone who has asked me about buying a new gun, I'd retire.

    What scope rings and base

I've been looking at the DNZ rings/bases to replace my double dovetails that got rusted on Kodiak. These look pretty similar to the Tally rings. I like having more room to load single rounds on my bolt rifle.

Sat phone users? (Yep tried searching)

We were hunting in unit 21e, about 50 miles west of Holy Cross, in the middle Yukon region.

Sat phone users? (Yep tried searching)

Just got back from AK. We used both a Sat phone with 60 minutes prepaid, and one of the Delorme in-reach units. You can text with the in-reach and it only costs 50 cents/text+ plan fees, that you can turn on just for hunting season. It also has a very nice SOS button that the NG monitors (so...

    Bear spray vs Bullets

Another question is, how do you know the bear spray can you are carrying will actually work? I can fire my handguns and rifles and be fairly certain they will function when needed. If I buy some bear spray, how can you test that actual can and still use it later (most seem to be one or two...

    Boot Suggestion

Here's another vote for the Salomon 4d. Just got back from 2 weeks in Alaska. They are light, waterproof, and very comfortable. The sizing is spot on and the toe has lots of room. I'd suggest getting better insoles.

Difference in performance according to bench rest bags fill

I switched from sand, to used crushed walnut media from my tumblers. After the media gets too dirty, I'll wash it with some detergent (dawn) and then let it dry thoroughly. The used walnut is much lighter, and still has enough heft to make it feel right. I haven't noticed any change in...

    Trucks n Tires

I put a set of C rated Goodyear Duratracs on my Tacoma, and have been very happy with them. So far, they have the best traction in snow/ice/mud, and have worn really well. They have a little hum, but not like a really aggressive tire. I will be sticking with these for a while.

    Realistic AR distance for 'yotes

I have a 20" barrel on my RRA Predator Pursuit upper. It shoots 1/2 moa on paper out to 200 yards (I haven't tested any farther than that). I blast P-dogs out to 350+ from a nice solid shooting table. This weight barrel is about the limit of what I would want in a carry rig. You probably...

    recoil pads

If you go to the limbsaver web site, they have templates that you can printout (http://www.limbsaver.com/Recoil_Pad_Template_Guide_10_2014.pdf). There are two Remington pads for the 700, one is longer than the other, so check out them both. Make sure when you print them out, that you don't...

    shooter or applied ballistics app

It doesn't look like the shooter app is being actively developed. The last update for Android was in 2013. IOS was recently updated. I'd go with Applied Ballistics.

    Accurate 7mm rem mag Powder?

I also use RL22 with Norma brass, 160 gr. Accubonds, and non magnum primers (Rem 9.5). The Norma brass is very nice to work with, but it does have a higher volume than Win/Federal, so you need a little more powder to get the same velocity.

    More layoffs in Remington ... :( :( :(

The UMWA represents those guys. I guess, as Obama said, elections have consequences:
