    338win mag brown bear

To the OP's question, I think the 338wm is an excellent cartridge for larger North American game. I've shot a lot of black bears with it and two grizzly. Good results, one shot kills, every time. I would definitely use a premium bullet like a Barnes, Nosler Partition or Swift AFrame - I...

What NF scope for 600 yards and under?

I've had both scopes on my 338wm which I regularly shoot to 500 yards. They are both excellent scopes and you can't go wrong either way. A few of things to consider: Is this a hunting rig that you are going to carry? If it is I would strongly recommend the 2.5-10x42. The 3.5-15x50 while a...

45-70 Gov. VS .338 MAG VS .300 Mag.

First off I'm assuming you meant 338win mag rather than H&H. Your 3006 is everything you need for hunting moose and bear. Use a premium bullet in 165 to 180 grain and then go forth and kill an ark full of critters.:) As others have mentioned being able to place your shot is more important than...

    Favorite Dangerous Game Round

If the shots are further or the climb is steep and/or rough I'll take my custom Model 70 in 338wm. If it's thick or I'm going in to the thick to find a wounded bear I like my 416 Rigby with 400 grain Swift AFrames. I've killed a number of bears with each and they both work very well...

    338 Magnums and grizzlies

I've shot a number of bears with my 338wm. Two were grizzly's. My favorite load is 71 grains of H4831sc under a 250 or 275 grn Swift AFrame. Works well on about everything else in North America too.

    Black Bear self defense handgun/rifle

JE Custom, well done. Last time I had one that close I was using a chainsaw. I agree, at the time you do what you got to do, looking back I kind of shudder. To the original poster, lots of good council already but here is my two bits worth. Heavier bullets, even traveling slower are better...

    What action would you use.

Whew, lots of Remington fans here... In all honesty all three will make fine rifles but here are a few thoughts on the build... Pick up a late model Winchester M70 classic action in a long action magnum action. I still see a number of 7MM's around NIB here in Canada. True the action...

Nightforce or Mark 4? PLEASE help me decide!

I have a NXS 3.5-15x50 with the NPR2 reticle, very good scope. I chose this over Leupold and have no regrets. From my eyes the NF has it all over Leupold optically - nothing wrong with Leupie, just that these are better. Downside is it's a little heavier and bulkier than a lot of other scopes...

Satisfied Users Of Nightforce Scopes From Nightforce Optics

I bought mine 3 years ago. NXS 3.5-15x50 with the NPR2 reticle. Robust construction, great clarity, superior low light performance. Saving up for a 2.5-10x32.

    New guy from BC

Hi all, I'm located in central BC, kind of an outdoorsman paradise. Been lurking for awhile as my interest in distance shooting has increased. I've only been shooting out to 500 yards so far but I'm just setting up to shoot out to 1000 yards this winter. We'll see how it goes...
