I have been doing load development with the 178 gn ELDX in a tikka 308 using varget. I just learned that the hornady reloading data calls for a max load of 42.4 gn. This seems pretty conservative. i have read some people having good results at 43.9. Any advice on this max load?

Here is my situation to give yall a little more to go on. I shoot a Tikka Tactical 308 with a 20" barrel with a 1:11" twist. I currently shoot a 175 gr. SMK BTHP out to 1000 yard steel, but am wanting to see if there is an actual "hunting bullet" that is capable of the same long range...

would the 185 gn Berger bullet be satisfactory to use for hunting out to 800 yards with 1:11 twist Tikka?
