I have a Ruger American Ranch 7.63x39 with a Vortex Diamondback 4-12x40. Amazingly accurate gun with cheap bulk soft point ammo. It’s a fun fun to shoot, cheap and with 16” barrel is easy to pack around.
My friends rifle (6.5 Grendel AR) will not shoot Hornady Black ammo with any consistency. I had the same problem with mine. I’ve been handloading 100 grain Nosler Ballistic tips over 8208 XBR with good success. He wants me to work up a load for his rifle (18” Satern 1-8 barrel) but I am...
204 Ruger
22-250
224 Valkyrie
223 Rem
6.5 Grendel
6.5 Creedmoor
6.5 PRC
9mm
Short list compared to others, but I do this as a hobby more so than out of necessity.
Did you follow Hodgdon’s published load data when having this issue? I have had 0 issues using Hornadys published data with Superformance and 143 ELDx.
I’m using it with 143 ELDx bullets in my 6.5 Creedmoor with goor results. I’m not worried about max velocity or shooting bug holes with this rifle. I experimented until I got a sub 1” group and left it alone.
Maybe try loading up some 100 grain Nosler BT hunting bullets? I’ve been using them exclusively in my grendel for hog hunting and they work great. Have not shot them over 150 yards but seem to work well for me.
If your on a budget but want a good scope a Leupold VX3i is a good choice. I have one on an Xbolt 6.5 Creedmoor. Great, light weight combination! I have a VX5hd with CDS on my 6.5 PRC and it is amazing for $750 (Gunbroker action)! It does weight more than the VX3i but has better glass and...
It’s a 6.5 PRC. I haven’t shot it but it handles well. I didn’t realize it came with a muzzle brake installed but no thread protector, besides that I’m impressed.
I have a Browning Xbolt Hell’s Canyon Long Range in 6.5 Creedmoor with a Leupold VX 3i that has performed flawlessly with 143 ELDx handloads. I would recommend highly.
Very true, I bought a Savage Axis 223 heavy barrel for $175 after rebates on Black Friday a couple years ago that shoots 3/8” groups with Hornady Match factory ammo. The stock is horrible but you can’t argue the price.
