    Where’s the ‘19 meat pole...?

Thanks, jjmp they are enjoyable to hunt, and the Australian alpine country is beautiful all year round, except bush fires are a concern this year, it has been very dry.

    Where’s the ‘19 meat pole...?

Some of those Mule deer and the surrounds look awesome! Lucky October hunt again this year, managed to find this stag in a gully that was burned in the fires late last year. He was above me at less than 150m. The rifle is an edge 300wsm loaded with 175 grain LRX. The venison so far has been great.

Browning X-Bolt Composite Stalker: Your Thoughts?

I have two: 270wsm and 338WM, and shoot a 375H&H ex-bolt in the medallion. All are accurate rifles. They handle recoil well. I had an issue with the duratouch coating getting sticky and coming off on my 338WM and winchester australia the importer replaced the stock. I am happy with the x-bolts.

    Your Ultimate 500 Yard Rig

Already have one fierce carbon titanium with Swaro Z5 3.5-18x44 with ballistic turret and 4W reticle. Light, accurate, and delivers plenty of punch with 175grain LRX or the various 178 -185 grain bullets out to 600 yards.

Long range setup for Sambar deer in Australia

The 30'06 will be fine as most have said. The 338WM in the tikka will recoil significantly more. I have one in an x-bolt that is loaded with 225 grain accubonds I use for Sambar and red stag, I have not had to shoot past 200m with it on game. The Leopold Vx5, & Vx6 scopes offer good turret...

    Sambar Stag at 482 yards - 300wsm

The Victorians have been good with hunting organisations banding together so hopefully it wont get as bad as QLD or difficult as NSW, in the meantime like you say we should enjoy it.

    Sambar Stag at 482 yards - 300wsm

I heard they have been flying helicopters over the areas near the ski fields at Hotham. Hopefully, they will stay out of the National Park.

    Sambar Stag at 482 yards - 300wsm

I thought this might interest members using the various 300 magnums. We returned from our annual hunt in the Alpine National Park in Victoria- Australia. I had the opportunity to harvest a stag at 482 yards with my 300wsm (Fierce Carbon titanium) shooting 175 LRX handloads. The stag only took...

    Best lightweight scope

I have the Z5 with the ballistic Turret, once you have settled on your load you can have swaro send you a custom turret. On my 300 wsm I have tested the turret out to 600m and it is spot on. The turret with my load dials out to 700m.

Need help with non-lead solid copper bullets

I have been very pleased with the 175 grain LRX out of a 300WSM. The bullet has expanded reliably out to 364m on a chamois (little antelope) and performed great on red deer, sambar and Himalayan Tahr. The accuracy has been impressive despite the fact that the weight of the bullets isnt as...

2017 Hunt Report and Meat Pole Contest - Win a $300 or $100 Gift Certificate

I have been fortunate in 2017. The year started with a flight to Christchurch NZ (from Sydney Australia) to hunt Chamois and Red Deer in the South Island of New Zealand, hunting with my brother and a local hunter friend who has a wealth of experience in the mountains. The South Island did...

    Fierce rifles

i have had one for almost a year - carbon edge titanium in 300wsm. If you are familiar with the sako85 that is what the action is. The rifle balances well, fitted with a swaro z5 ballistic turret I can get mine to shoot well out to 600m with several different loads (168 bergers through to...

    175 grain LRX -300wsm

Hi Fred, I have a fierce carbon edge - (sako 85 action clone) with a short magnum magazine that limits coal to a little over the standard, I'll have to check my notes or measure one. I have made a typo on the muzzle speed it is 3005fps, I know I can get a little more out of it (no signs of...

    175 grain LRX -300wsm

I have been getting good accuracy with the Barnes LRX from my 300WSM. I was not sure whether the bullet would expand at distance on small game like chamois. The photographs are from last week in the NZ South Island Alps. The chamois buck died instantly, it was sitting at 360m. The bullet's...
