The problem I had with my Ruger American was that there was a huge gap between the barrrel and the stock on one side and it was touching the barrel on the other side. I have noticed others on store shelves had the same problem. I was impressed with the aluminum bedding in the fiber/plastic stock.
What caliber? You mentioned the load of 69.1 grs of H1000,
Primers, 162 Amax but I wasn't seeing which caliber. Also I've been a machinist most of my adult life, so the amount you said your bullet was off (you wrote of), the lands I presume was meant to be, five one thousandths of an inch, is...
Thank you very much, I've got it now, your plug gauge is not the ID of the neck, it is the neck OD (outer diameter) that will be stopped at the end of the chamber neck case length, to know overall chamber/neck length. With that measurement, we can shorten the neck to allow the maximum neck...
I got a bit lost on the part about making a gauge cutting it short by .050" and then putting
your plug gauge into the case. Isn't the old machined case your gauge? or are you referring to a different "plug gauge"?

Thanks Phil, I was considering using them for hunting and have heard some say that the 215 is a good bullet for hunting. The box says recommended for target not suitable for hunting. This is the Hybrid Target 30 cal. 215 grain bullets. I have heard they all are straight lead with jacket...
thank you so much for all the feedback. It's really great to have a way to get other opinions and learn from their experiences. I have been using H-1000 exclusively for the 300 Win in heavier bullets. I was very pleased with the 190 grain results but would rather use the 215's if I can get good...
Longshooter, I never use the crimping portion. I don't see a need for it in bolt action rifles with a decent purchase on the bullet. My problem was bulging just above the belt from someone's used brass that I bought, and he must have had a bad chamber. i bought the used brass at a gun show and...
I agree. The original idea with head spacing on belted cases changed. It is still a very popular caliber but with a potential for case splitting. I always check used cases for cracks just ahead of the belt to see any sign of a split that will be radially around the case. That is one of the...
what you misunderstood or I failed to explain was that these cases were never fired by me. I bought some used brass at a gun show and the damage was not noticeable to the naked eye. When I turned brass off of a case it was to see if that was the problem and I never intended to use that brass. I...
jboscobuys, I hear what you are saying about the Wilson gauge. but it just gauges your shoulder setting/headspace. It doesn't fix it with screwed up brass. I thought that all I would have to do with those cases that wouldn't fit was to change the die setting, but with a case that has been shot...
Since you are using once fired brass, I assume it was not fired in either of your rifles. I had the same problem and it seemed that all the sizes were correct on this brass. I took an unloaded brass and turned a few thousandths off ahead of the belt and it chambered easily. I believe the best...
