    Arrow Speed and Kinetic Energy

This is the rest of the Ashby reports: webpages There used to be alot more, but they took some down; some with raw feild data.

    Arrow Speed and Kinetic Energy

Dr. Ashby has some articles on the subject. Oh, and I shoot traditional. My 45lbs recurve launches an 800gn arrow at 130fps and it will smoke anything in NA. There are a lot of factors in penetration, arrow flight, mass, FOC, broadhead design, arrow system integrity.... Read this...

Which custom build would you go with?

I'd do it in a long action to give myself room to work.

Which custom build would you go with?

I said 338Lapua, because I don't particularlly like .308", or belted cases for the WM. Big 338s with Scenars or 300Hybrids are extreme range capable, though I prefer 7mm for the range/game your looking at. I'm always thinking of adding a big 338 to my stable, maybe LapuaAI or an Edge. Kinda...

    flutes or no flutes

Fluting is to take off weight, and look cool. If it needs to lose some in the front, to balance right, then fluting the tube may do it for you. If you want it to look good, flutes can be the cat's meow, especially painted. If you're not looking for either of these, then leave it be.

.284 Winchester Jump or no Jump

Not really comparing. Just saying what I'm doing. I start touching on all new loads, and back off if needed.

Where does the .243 win fit in?

After shedding some weight. Bullet expansion is a direct corralation of impact velocity. The higher the impact speed, the more expansion/deformation. How far a deer moves after it is shot has more to do with that individual deer than bullet performance. If you shoot 100 deer with the same...

Where does the .243 win fit in?

If it has the "energy" to expand, then it has enough to penetrate. As long as you're not using varmint bullets, you'll penetrate. Good bullet choice is important, almost as much as shot placement. And that holds true no matter the Cartrige.

    25cal Marauder

Benjamin Marauder 25cal, MSRP is around $500, but you can find it for under $450. Go to Crosman's website for specs, here: Crosman | Airguns | Rifles | PCP | Marauder Rifle (.25) There are alot of good guns out there, but you'll be hard pressed to beat the marauder without going over...

    25cal Marauder

I finally bought a PCP air rifle. The first thing I did was spray paint the ugly *** stock (wood), then put a cheap *** simmons scope on it. I was going to put a 6.5-20X50 Mark4 that I have laying around, but I couldn't find rings to fit it, and I wanted to get to shooting it, so it gets the...

Where does the .243 win fit in?

I hate energy calculations. If 1000ft-lbs is min, then 44mag revolvers can't play. That's BS. Impact velocity needs to be high enough for the bullet design you're shooting, period. If the bullet hits fast enough to open it up or do what it's supposed to, it'll do work. For all those who say a...

    Which caliber?

    Sounds like a couple of winners; 260/140s at ~2800, 7-08/162s at ~2700?

.284 Winchester Jump or no Jump

I seat the 140TTSX kissing, and have seen pretty good accuracy, low speeds. I just started with the 162Amaxs, and the way my throat is cut, I can't kiss (SA), so I'll see what I can do with a running start.

    Bullet Jump

Start with a touch (if possible), watch your work-up, then back off as needed. Just gotta see what a particular rifle and bullet like.

    best western US hunting round

I could like the 7mms for this, but I try not to imagine only owning/shooting one gun, it gives me nightmares.
