How many of you went back (scales)

I never left my balance either. Thought about an electronic, but never got one.

    Need .223 reloading advice ?

As long as it is a bolt gun, loading bottle neck ammo is almost all the same. Auto loaders may be a bit finicky and the brass life is severely limited.

How much difference can a trigger make?

I did the same with my three 700 5Rs. I put Jewells in them and all are set at 1 pound. The trigger feels the same in the .300 as it does in the .308 and .223. I sold the X triggers to someone here on the forum and was happy he wanted them. Even though I didn't like them, they didn't need to...

Which NIGHTFORCE Reticle to get? Rem 700 5R .308

I agree with gebhardt, the NP-R1 of NP-R2 with MOA turrets. I have one on my .308 and another on my .300WM. I went with the NP-2DD on the .223. Great scopes.

    Parallax Question??

Also look at the possibility of canting the rifle when shooting or that the scope reticle may not be properly leveled.

    Belted casings questions

You are right about that Bart. I thought I was cleaning but it just wasn't good enough. I realized there was a small almost scratch like area just ahead of the belt on each case so that's why I polished it. If there was a burr in there the 40X got it out but I still clean the chamber...

    Belted casings questions

My 700 5R was having the same problem, stiff bolt lift and hard extraction. A thorough chamber cleaning and polishing eliminated the problem completely. Remington 40X bore cleaner on a cut down shotgun mop chucked in a drill and turned very slowly did the trick.

Who makes the best Rifle Powder and why,

I rekon I am just an old hat. I have been satisfied with IMR4895 for over 35 years for .30-06 and .308 and and will never change. I do however, use H4895 in .223 and H4831 in .300 Win Mag. No sense in changing what works.

    Supersonic crack with suppressor

Thanks for the responses, I sort of suspected what I have read, but since it was 1966 when I last sat in a college physics class I couldn't quite remember. I am shooting with the AAC Cyclone and using it on all three of my 700s--.223, .308, and .300 WM with lower velocity loads. I probably won't...

    Supersonic crack with suppressor

I am new to shooting with a suppressor on my rifles and have maybe a stupid question to ask. I am using the same suppressor on .223, .308 and .300 Win Mag. The supersonic crack is created when the bullet exceeds the speed of sound or about 1152 feet/sec. at sea level. My loads in the .308, for...

Reduced Velocity 300 Win Mag Loads

I am loading some reduced loads for mine. It is a 700 Milspec 5R with 26"barrel. The load is Winchester brass, Federal 215 primer, and 180 gr. Accubond with 65 grs. H4831. This is a very accurate load in my rifle, but haven't chronoed it. I will use it for hunting whitetails here in Georgia.

    Climbing tree stands? Whats good?

That's why I like my Gunslinger. It's so comfortable I can take a nap.

Is The 5.5~22 Nightforce my only choice?

At least you know what you are going to get with a NF. I love the onew on my rifles and never intend to change.

    .308 Build

You could always look into a new or slightly used Model 700 Milspec 5R. Bed it, install a Jewell trigger, thread the barrel 5/8X24 for the suppressor of your choice. Get a Nightforce NXS with 20MOA base and you got a really good shooting rifle for a little further than 500 yards. Mine likes...

my favorite 308 win load so far!!!

H4895 is an excellent powder and I have used it a little. However I stick to IMR4895 in my .308 Milspec, M1As, Garands and 03s. It has served me well for 30 years and still does. I have also developed loads for the M700 using 168 SMKs and 165 SBT Gamekings which shoot to the same point of...
