    Seating Depth Increments?

I've changed my reloading procedures as a result of three things. Trying Erik Cortina's method (.003 increments), Hornady's results specified in podcasts #50, 52, 60 and 121 and my results testing a new Sako 85 30-06 shooting 168 TTSXs last summer. Here are my results summarized: I ran Eric's...

    338 Winchester Magnum

I've owned two 300 WMs. One consistently shot moa or better and the other shot 1-2 moa. I moved back to Alaska and since then have owned five 338 WMs. All five 338s shot 67.5-68.0 grains IMR 4350, Winchester/Norma cases, Fed 215M primers and Barnes 225 grain X/TTSX bullets moa or better. My...

CLP as a Carbon Remover in Bore?

You can easily remove powder fouling and copper jacket fouling with various cleaners (I use wipeout/patchout or BTE) but the only way I have found to remove the hard carbon is with an abrasive. I couldn't get it out by brushing with bronze or nylon brushes. It's too hard. I have successfully...

Hammer bullets coexist with Cup/Lead Core bullet loads

Barnes has been preaching this for many years. Backfire TV recently experienced this while shooting Sako monolithic bullets and cup and core bullets. He credits Ron Spomer with making him aware accuracy could be degraded going from cup and core to monolithic bullets without cleaning down to...

    Opinions on Accubonds

I'm loading them in 7mm-08 and 30-06. Killed three caribou (80 yards, 214 yards, 225 yards) with the 140 grain Accubond in 7mm-08. All were complete pass through chest shots leaving a decent sized exit wound on the far side. I haven't used the 180 Accubond out of my 30-06 to kill anything just yet.

    165 tsx vs 180 tsx

I've not used Barnes bullets in the 300 WSM. I've only used them in the 338 WM and 30-06. I wouldn't expect the 165 to cause more permanent damage to the animal than the 180. The temporary wound channel is just that...temporary. The bullets are the same diameter and will likely expand to...

    338 Win Mag reloading dies

I've been loading for the 338 WM since 1993. I have used RCBS full length sizing dies, Lee collet dies, Forster full length sizing dies and Redding Bushing dies with Short Action Customs (SAC) bushings and Sinclair expander mandrels. All make good ammo but my preference is the Redding bushing...

Bullets that don't care about seating depth

I can confirm Barnes 168 TTSXs in two 30-06s this past summer were basically unaffected by seating depth. I fired a total of 45 three shot groups with one rifle spanning .087 in .003 increments. In the other rifle, I simply seated the bullet .075 closer to the lands and the difference in...

Can someone tell me about labradar

I've owned a Labradar for quite some time. I'm on my second Magnetospeed (sold the first one) and have had several optical chronographs over the years too. The Labradar works okay but it needs to be aimed correctly to read properly (I lay a small metal tube on the V notch and look through it to...

    Bedding Fierce Rifle

The rifle might just have a preference for the 165s. If it shoots those consistently, I don't think you have a bedding problem. Having said that, the Fierce is largely a copy of the Sako 85 although the Fierce has tighter tolerances than the Sako. The owner of Fierce said so in an article you...

    Labradar chrono

Mine is on its way from Midway. I predict my Magnetospeed and CED Millenium will be up for sale.

    338 WIN. MAG. help

Here's a load that has shot submoa in 3 of my 338s. It's the max load in the most recent Barnes reloading manual. 67.5 grains of IMR 4350 under a 225 grain TTSX. Seat the bullets 50 thousandths from the lands as measured from the ogive. This summer I'm gonna see of H4350 will give me...

    Brown bear bullet decisions

I've been party to killing 5 browns and 1 grizz. I used 225 grain Barnes Xbullets for four of em and the 225 grain Barnes TTSXs for the last two all in 338 Win Mag. It's a tradeoff and you'll be fine with any of em. The monolithics like Barnes will generally penetrate deeper than the...

    Best load for a 22" 30-06

I just went through this with a Weatherby Vanguard 30-06 with a 24 inch tube. 55.5 grains H4350 pushing a 168 grain TTSX slightly outperformed IMR4350 in accuracy and significantly beat IMR4064. Velocity clocked in at 2825ish fps. H4350 has less load density than IMR4350 so I'm glad it worked...
