That is beautiful. Three generations that rifle carries a lot of soul.

It would be easy to find a Weatherby Vanguard Sub-MOA in 300 win or 300 wby. It would also leave you with plenty of money for good glass and practice ammo.

I feel your pain. Last deer season I shot my first coyote with a 270 at 60 yards. I hit him a little back I found hair and guts but no coyote. Tough buggers aren't they.

I have a 300 Wby. Mag. in a Vanguard (see my signature) and its is a great shooter easy MOA. It has great potential but the likely hood of it going to 1000 yards stock is slim. The 300 wby can do it it just needs to be in the right set-up to do it accuratly.

A lot of Weatherby purest say you have to use Weatherby brass but I couldn't spare the change so I went with Hornady brass instead and haven't had any problems in the three months I have been using it. A word of Ruger advice if it doesn't shoot as good as you hope at first don't form and conclusions most Rugers don't start shooting their best until after the first hundred rounds or so. Mine went +1'' new to 3/4'' at 50 or so and when I crossed 100 dropped below 1/2''.

My namesake shot less then 1/2'' yesterday. All I have done to it is floated the barrel and tuned the trigger.

I chose the SSTs because I have always been a Hornady fan, I wanted something that would expand fast (tipped), they are rated at 3200fps where the Nosler BTs are only 3000, and at half the price I can shoot twice as much. I am just hunting Alabama deer right now so the SSTs should work good...
