    New gear

I use a DIY stainless version of the Ed T stove - cost about $120 in parts, weighs about 5 ounces more than titanium. One negative is that you'll get dirty taking them down, so I always add an extra pair of disposable gloves for that chore. Make sure you burn it in before you head out, as the...

    What's you hunting sleeping bag?

I'm one of those quilt guys, and I'll never go back to a bag. I'm a side sleeper, and I roll over a lot, so the quilt is good for my style. I can't stand being constricted in a sleeping bag anymore. I use a wide 20° Enlightened Equipment down quilt and just wear a beanie on my head. If I'm going...

    Kifaru Packs

Call them and ask for Aron Snyder. He'll gladly answer any questions. There's a lot of good information and discussion over on Rokslide.com. Other packs that are popular there are from Stone Glacier, Exo Hunting and Seek Outside.

Best Rifle Sling for those that walk a lot. IMO

I use the Kifaru Gun Bearer for backcountry hunting. Still need a handy sling for antelope hunting so I'll check out the Slogan.

    Backcountry shelter

I use a Bearpaw Wilderness Luna 5 with a Tigoat wood stove. 5 lbs for tent and stove, easy for two guys to carry.

Gear to bring on first time Montana Elk hunt!

With regards to a sleeping bag, I don't like them and don't use them. Consider a quilt instead, like www.enlightenedequipment.com. You don't use the insulation on the bottom of a sleeping bag, anyway.

    First Long Range Rifle Scope?

Cameraland is having their annual "Doug's gone fishing" sale with a 10% discount, and that applies to most of the demo units, too. There's a Viper PST 4-16x50 for $599 in the demo sale, and that's a pre-discount price.

    BuyingLeft Over Wyoming Antelope Tags

This is what I do. Last year the leftovers in the area we hunt, SE corner of Wyoming, lasted about 3 minutes.

    Favorite daypack?

I use my Kifaru Timberline 2 for everything from day trips to week long backcountry trips. If someone gave me a Spike Camp or T3 I'd use it, but the slight weight savings surely isn't worth the money.
