I don't own a 7 Mag. but, I've loaded some slow powder and I'd probably get the 26" barrel. I'm assuming that this rifle will be a long range rifle and not be in the woods. The longer barrel won't really be a hindrance. You might get decent velocities from your loads. Hope everything works out.

They'll probably shoot good. Its not hard a lot of times to find a accurate .308 load. Both my .308's shoot pretty good. I've shot some 168 gr. SMK's and got pretty groups. I hunt with 150 gr. Hornady spire points. They aren't as accurate as the Sierra Matchkings but, shoot plenty good enough...

They're based off of a Mauser 98. Fine rifles in my opinion.
