A 243 here is acceptable out to say 300 metres tops with good shot placement on Red deer and we know this from genuine experience. Son has a 6mm CM with 103gr ELD-X doing 3,000 fps he limits himself to 300M distance tops, any hunting over that distance he always uses his 270 or 7mm RM
Old & overweight I know the feeling all too well..
Looks like Avon Valley Marlborough our home territory, there's no 'easy' hunting country around here unfortunately. It's either mountains, heavy bush or both! You get lucky sometimes like unloading the ute and a deers looking at you 70 metres away 👍
Looks like Avon Valley Marlborough to me and out in the wild their racks aren't anything like that. Kiwi here, been hunting for the past fifty years or so and to this day. Personally I have no objection to canned hunts, we also live in Marlborough and hunting goes all year round it's a hunters...
Why for realistic ranges they're fine, we use 140gr Partitions out to 500 metres here in the real world. There's nothing wrong with flat based projectiles the current obsession with high BC deems them too old school.
140gr in both 270 and 6.5 PRC
He's OK there's far worse out there, like everyone he makes mistakes. I think he's simply trying to encourage more women into the sport which isn't a bad thing. Leave a polite comment on the youtube page, or don't watch his videos mate?
Wouldn't a heavier projectile used in a shorter barrel be the ideal. Also what's the benefits of a shorter barrel, that's genuine benefits for a practical hunting rifle. We run 24" and 22" barrels on all our hunting rifles most with suppressors and they're not an issue. Some hunters here who're...
Best hunters I ever knew weren't brilliant shots and had OK rifles, but they were exceptional hunters always getting within their comfort zone for an easy shot.
It's a sixty year old Sako Finnbear with a 24.5" barrel, for me the next step would be either 7mm RM or a 280 AI we have both again Sako rifles. We do have one 26" barrel on a 22-250 AI with a 1-8 twist as per the photo
