I bought a REM 700 in 7STW about 7 years ago and has a vortex viper 6x24 and also have 2 boxes of factory ammo. The gun still have the tags on it, never been shot. I think I will have some smith work, new trigger, bedding and action work and start shooting it.
I have both and they both have a certain purpose. For me, when hunting deer in TN where I live, it’s SFP. It’s mostly woods with shots less than 150 yds.

First year using dial on NF FFP. I found it really easy to dial and boost my confidence to take my bull at 310 yards. I did a lot of practice dialing between 300-600 to prepare for my hunt and it worked perfectly.
I zero at 100
I understand your concern and I wanted something that looked symmetrical with my gun so I went with a Ross. I think it was about 40 bucks.
It’s on a 300 rum and I can shoot all day without my shoulder getting sore.
Like you I went through this same process for my first elk hunt. 300 Rum
I went with McMillan Game Warden 2.0
Trigger Tech Diamond set at 2.0 lbs. I think that is max weight.

I sent Greg and Russ a picture the other day and they were excited about the elk and how the gun performed.
They are great people and have spent a few hours at the shop talking “whatever” with Greg.
They do awesome work and they will do all of my gunsmith work going forward.
Good luck on your hunt!
