Anyone shooting Browning fast twist 270?

I just finished building a fast-twist 270 based on a Rem 700 action. I put on a Douglas Premium 24" barrel with a 1:8 twist. Haven't gotten it to the range yet.

My first (and maybe only) custom

Thanks. Kindergarten-level skill required. I highly recommend anyone try it. Super simple, and every on turns out different.

My first (and maybe only) custom

She started out as a mid-1980's Rem 700 ADL .270 Win with a 20" barrel and wood stock. I always felt I was leaving velocity on the table with that short barrel, although it was very convenient to carry. I finally took the plunge and decided to upgrade it. Particulars are: 24" Douglas Premium...

Any places to shoot long range in Virginia?

Go to nrviwla.org. That is our new website. I'm on the board of directors there. We don't have a true long-range setup. It is target frames out to 100 yards, then steel targets going up the hill at various ranges to about 200. PM me if you want more info on the club.

    Never Spoil your Bird Dog!

I used to have a Brittany. She had a nose like a vacuum cleaner. This is Lucy, my latest project. 7 months old and very full of herself!

165 Grain SSTs on Deer Sized Game

Haven't had any experience with the 30 cal SST's but a friend almost lost a couple deer using the 50 cal muzzleloader version. Long tracking jobs, and when we skinned out the deer, the bullets had essentially fragmented inside, with very little penetration and no exit at all after just glancing...

Huns & Sharp tails near Billings Montana

"Easy driving distance" is a relative thing in that country. I used to hunt pheasant in the YellowTail WMA, which is about an hour south of Billings. Not sure about the Hun or sharptail population those. He may want to reach out to the local game warden for advice. As far as public/private goes...

    Lehigh

I bought some 110s to try in my 6.5 Grendel. I have a friend who uses their muzzleloader bullets and swears by them, so I figured I'd give them a try. Hadn't got around to load development yet.

    Which turkey gun?

I kinda like sticking with the classics. Since turkey hunting is typically a single shot game, I like to hunt with my old Winchester single shot Model 37A. It is short (no action that has to cycle), easy to handle, and with a 30" full choke barrel, devastating out to around 50 yards. Turkey...

    New to Wyoming

Find yourself a good local gun shop/fly shop/sporting goods store (in Wyoming that may be the same place!) and spend as much time and money there as you can get away with. You can also join the local conservation groups such as Trout Unlimited or the Rocky Mountains Elk Foundation, and go to the...

    Wyoming whitetail trophy

There's a lot of great whitetail hunting in Wyoming. They love the river bottoms and the Black Hills area around Sundance. I used to hunt the Big Horn Basin, and the whitetail population there was thriving. Basically anywhere you could find trees around there, you could find whitetails.

    Youth rifle 243 or 300blk?

I just bought a Savage Axis XP Compact in .243 specifically for youth use. I am VERY impressed with. The trigger was the one downside (no AccuTrigger), but even with an 8 lb pull, I was still able to sight it in with sub-1 inch groups. I spent $20 on an mCarbo spring kit for the trigger, and the...
