My go to deer and elk still hunting rifle is a Model 7 in 7mm-08. Love carrying that light quick gun. Just take good heart lung shots don't try to break shoulders. Everything I have shot with it died quick. Good luck!

I actually prefer the nontipped Barnes bullets. They seem to expand better. Plus I don't shoot over 400yds and don't take bad shots. Deer die really quick with a well placed ttx at 2500+ fps

I've killed two bull elk and dozens of deer with my 300wsm with 168 Barnes TSX and TTSX. The furthest shot was a 6x6 at 325yds. He lunged forward and crashed 10ft from where he was hit. Double lung broadside hit.

I've had 2 Accumarks and never could get great accuracy of them. 1 MOA on a good day. I think it's probably because of the freebore. Otherwise, I love their rifles.

Thanks all for your input. So it seems like the majority concensus is a RUM, Edge, NM, 340... in the 10 - 12 lb range scoped. A Lapua will likely cost and weigh more. If I just shot targets or hunted close to the truck I might lean towards the Lapua.
