Wonderful animals. They help us get the game, and they love the parts we don't.

For HUNTING deer, my Marlin 336 in .35 Remington w/ 200gr Remington CoreLokt RN. For AMBUSHING deer (sitting in a stand or blind and waiting for them to walk by), I use a Savage 110 in 30-06 w/ 150gr Winchester Power Points. I take longer shots from the stand than I do walking through the brush.

I am for the shoulder -- if the deer is quartering away, I am for the far shoulder; and if it is quartering toward me, I aim for the near shoulder.

If you're getting a lot of muzzle flash, you're burning powder outside the gun, and you should use a faster powder.
