    Lets talk 17's for fur.

My 17 wsm bolt gun is quiet enough to not hurt my ears if I forget hearing protection. Not being able to reload drives me crazy. The 17 hornet piqued my interest for a bit till i read

    Lets talk 17's for fur.

30 golds were going to be my first choice but aren't being made anymore. The guy that bought the dies from kindler made them for a while but i guess he stopped. I might as well get a 1in9 tw barrel so i can run the long bullets when I find them. I guess that would stabilize any bullets currently...

    Lets talk 17's for fur.

I don't see this subject breached all that often but i know there's some 17 fans out there. I personally only have experience with the 17 wsm, which has proven to be quite the effective round for me in a savage bmag HB. That thing continues to blow me away with its accuracy. I have verified many...

What is a Really Good Hunting Knife

I dont know fosho...but it was very stainless-y. Certainly cheap enough to try another. Used it for cutting twine when feeding little bales.

What is a Really Good Hunting Knife

The old schrades and old timers were great! Wish I still had the one my dad bought me when I was 10. I sharpened that thing down to the nubbin before I was 25.

Sorry to rain on your parade...I bought that exact knife for ranch use at TSC and the steel is sooooo soft. Sharpens easily and gets very sharp but looses its edge very fast. Mabne I got a fluke but I've already I sworn off that brand.

Poor accuracy at 300y, great at 400

Well, the rifle did its job. As i mentioned before, this is my brother's rifle and he got a tasty young bull with it. We're meat hunters and try to go for young ones over size especially the first one if we are both going to hunt. We'll do more steaks with a young one and more jerky/...

What is a Really Good Hunting Knife

I have been using this little saw for years, I'm really happy with it... the blade is a quality high carbon steel that's still sharp after at least 10 elk. It's made so you don't cut through the intestine when splitting the pelvis (if thats the way you do it- I've found its easier to keep the...

What is a Really Good Hunting Knife

You know, I recently bought an outdoor edge with a few replaceable blades and after using it on a elk recently, feel it was a waste of money. The steel in the blades is garbage. While it takes an edge really well and gets super sharp when I sharpen it, the steel is super soft and dulls extremely...

Poor accuracy at 300y, great at 400

I'm not 100% sure if I found the problem, but it shoots better now at the ranged I tested at. Had a sneaking suspicion the barrel wasnt free-floated enough, as it was vertical stringing more than I'd like to see even with a change to different ammo. It had maybe .050" or less of barrel...

Eyes sure aremt as good as they used to be. Used to be able to shoot 1/4 moa with a 9x scope. I need twoce that now.

Poor accuracy at 300y, great at 400

Yep makes sense. In my case I'm holding dead on at 100, 200, and 300. Impact should be 2.5ish inches low at 300 (I could have made a mistake on that, very likely). I'm zeroing at 262 yards. It only takes a little bit of difference in zero range according to the app to make a huge difference at...

Poor accuracy at 300y, great at 400

Hmm. I come up with about 2.5" low at 300 and 2.64" high at 150y. Not sure what we're doing different unless youre putting in a different zero. I'm zeroing at 262 yards because it gives me point blank range of 300 figuring 2.5" up or down from zero. 7800' elevation, 70 degrees. Where I plan to...
