    Neck tension question

After years of wrestling with neck tension by using bushing sizer dies, neck turning, I invested in 21st Century mandrels and graphite to achieve consistent neck tension as a final sizing step. I have multiple undersize mandrels for every caliber that I load. The 1000 yard hunting ammo I load...

    Hydraulic Form Die

Hydraulic dies provide a useful process to reform brass for some wildcat cartridges. However, in my experience, Ackley Improved cartridges don’t need them. Standard loads perform adequately while also fire forming modified brass. I described using them as a necessary step to produce brass for...

    Hydraulic Form Die

I grew up using the hydraulic case former that Rocky Gibbs included with the die sets he sold with all of the Gibbs wildcats back in the 50’s and 60’s. My dad and his buddies used military surplus brass to form brass for the 6.5 Gibbs, the 270 Gibbs, the 30 Gibbs, and the 8mm Gibbs. It got...

    Sako VS Browning

I bought a Browning A bolt 300 Win Mag as a backup rifle for and Alaska moose hunt. Cheap, sloppy action, 2-3” groups at 100 yards, and kicked like a mule. My advice: pass on the A bolt. In 375 H&H it will be brutal. I picked up 1980’s vintage 375H&H on Gunbroker for $800 and it is like new, the...

Whats the worse rifle or gun you ever bought ? I hsve several tied

Remington Model 600 350 Rem Mag. Total piece of ****!! My anger stems from the fact that I went away for college to come home and find that my dad had traded a Win Model 1895 45-90, two Savage Mod 99, and a Win Model 1892 25-20 for this junk. Kicked like a mule. Needless to say my dad was way...

What powder and primer are you using in the 270WSM with the Berger 140 gr Classic Hunter bullet? Thx…

Ruger American Gen 2 vs Ruger American Gen 2 Rancher

The 6.5 Creedmoor produces about 13 ft-lbs of recoil vs 17 ft-lbs for the 7mm08. If this is a deer only rifle go with the 6.5 CM. AMMO is readily available and lower recoil will enhance the shooting experience for the young shooter. Specialty rounds are OK if you’re an avid reloader. However...

    25-06 with a Barnes 80gr ttsx

Love the 25-06. Lived in eastern Montana during the 80’s when we could get 8 deer tags some years (5 muley doe, 2 whitetail doe, and the A tag). Made lots of sausage for family & friends. Those years I used 120 gr Speer Grand Slam bullets in my Browning B78. Currently using 115 gr Berger VLD...

    270WSM Handloads

Looks like we lost a post?? The contributor raised the possibility that the barrel wasn’t broken in. That could be. This rifle is an anomoly wrt Gunwerks quality and was built about the time of the split with Best of the West. I’ll watch for copper as I try some of the combinations suggested in...

    270WSM Handloads

Winchester Brass. My goto if I can't get Lapua in a caliber. I do use Wetherby for my Wetherby rifles. Using Hornady in the Creedmoors because it was available. I avoid Remington and Federal based on past problems.

    270WSM Handloads

Hoping to luck out. FYI, I have a 300 Win Mag load and a 6.5 Creedmoor load that work in over 4 rifles each. The Creedmoor load is seated to SAMI Max length and seems to work universally. The 300 Win Mag load gets tweaked for jump but otherwise has been universally producing subminute accuracy...

    270WSM Handloads

not yet. I like to ID low ES point and then tune accuracy with jump. I’m always open to new ideas if you use a different approach I’m primarily searching for advice here re/ best powder, bullet design, and bullet weights to get a good starting point. I am anxious to try the 100 gr Hammer load...

    270WSM Handloads

I popped lots of whitetails in the head in my teens with an old Rem Mod 721 270win with 100 grain bullets. No where near that velocity!! Do you have to mail order Hammer bullets? I never used any but See lots of positive comments about them in these forums.
