    Couple new wildcats...

Case length on the 284? Better yet would be a case drawing. How does it differ from a 7 mm Weatherby? I'm slowly accumulating the parts for a 32" Savage chassis gun in 7mm. I'm currently leaning towards chambering it in 7 mm Weatherby. What barrel length were you using on the 7 ? Oh great I just...

The ctg I am discussing is a necked down 300 Win mag with no improving.

So u wish this thread to be limited to 1 particular version of the 300 Win Mag necked too 7mm? Care to define which version you think the thread should be limited too?

Actually it does sorta pertain. I'm considering having a reamer made that will use 300 Win mag necked down too 7 mm with a bit longer neck than the std 7mm/300 & am debating using a Weatherby type shoulder or not. I want too kill 3 or 4 birds with 1 stone. Extend a 7 mm Weatherby enough that it...

I'd certainly hope to not part as friends, but too remain as friends :D, I don't get angry over a different viewpoint. I asked for your view & am glad too hear it. Thank you. Hundreds of Wildcats, wow!!. The only wildcat I've delt with before was the 30-338 & that was only because I was issued...

    Sounds like a good load.

    Anyone own a 7mm 300 Win Mag?

A sharp 40 degree shoulder limits brass flow & cartridge elongation, it wastes very little of a cartridges longitudinal length. These r things mostly used by benchrest shooters. I don't think anyone is going to claim they help reliable feed which is irrelevant to a benchrest shooter. Almost all...

I also suspect the RUM would be ideal for forward ignition experiments. You lose some of the internal volume due too the ignition tube. The RUM can spare losing 4 or 5 grs of volume. Some 20 mm loads use this. Elmer Keith used to do it with duplex powder loads in the 338-378. Supposedly gives a...

Any particular reason, other than cost & don't like Weatherby? You have better luck than me @ getting 40 degree shoulders too feed. I don't like the cost either. But I can form them from cheaper brass.

Yea, I suspect with the heavier bullet & longer tube the RUM might start kicking some butt.:D

My Hornady 9th edition doesn't list anything heavier than 175s nor any loads with Retumbo for the RUM, it does show the 7 mm Weatherby matching it with 18 grs less powder. Both 26" barrels, both book max, both 175 Hornady. 7 mm WBY 70.1 grs H4831 = 3100 fps. Several other powders also give...

Seems to me the problem with the 7 RUM is you can match the speed with a shorter case & less powder, recoil & barrel wear. I wonder though if you made the barrel longer say 30"+ if the RUM might start flexing some muscle?

No doubt the Remington wins the bang for the buck contest. Not that it means much, but in my usual haunting of gunshops I compared cost & velocity of the cheapest factory ammo I could spot from both locally. 1. Factory fresh Federal 7 RM 150 gr SP. 21.99$ @ Wally world. 3110fps. 2. Been...
