I hold over for wind. As for elevation on some of my scopes I have reticles that allow for hold over. Then on Leupolds I have used use a BDC dial like the CDS. I like using hold over for close in since it allows for quick follow up shots, but for the accurate longrange shot nothing is better...

Wife doesn't hunt but I want to get her into it. She target shoots but has grown out of it. I can't wait to introduce my son and daughter to target shooting and hunting. I am already looking at rifles and shotguns for them.

Thanks for all the advice, its primarily a sporting rifle and if necessary a long shot of 450 might be taken with it. I may try a bedding job to see for myself if it will give my Savage any accuracy.

Very informative article. I have two questions, will bedding a sythetic stock really make much of a difference and will the bedding last long in a synthetic stock? I have a Savage Model 11 in 243 that I am thinking of either doing a bedding job or simply getting a new stock.
