I have hunted from Arizona to Africa with the 280AI since the early 90's, and it has never let me down. Low recoil, accurate and easy to load for, flat trajectory and no animal fairly hit has ever gotten away. I'd re-barrel that 280 AI without a second thought.

I primarily use Barnes bullets now, but noticed that if I shot a cup-and-core load and then followed up with the Barnes loads, the subsequent groups grew from sub-MOA to over 2 MOA in size and shots landed erratically. Cleaning the barrel solved the problem.

Correct. No issues with headspace or loose barrels. If you are worried about that, Derrick has machined wrench flats on barrels in the past and you can just loosen and tighten the barrels with an end wrench. My rifles have often traveled on bumpy roads and in less-than-desirable conditions...

I used to have a 700 Palma rifle that was set up as a switch barrel system with different barrels that were hand-tightened only. I experienced zero problems with the system and never had the barrels shoot loose. The work was done by Derrick Martin at Accuracy Speaks.
