I have a labdar. Had it for years. Once you learn how to use it, it is super simple. Chrony every round at my home range (and that is a literal truck ton) Only issue I have had is in rainy weather or if there are too many steel reflective targets on the range.
Ok just read all 17 pages. I wonder too about tumbling media especially stainless. It is an easy step to miss in checking flash holes.
On a random other note. I have many bees at my range as we grow pine trees in this part of the world. I actually had a bee this summer crawl into my barrel...
Welcome to the party. Have had one for a year. Also have the binocs. Simply cannot be beat for the price. Worth mentioning although mine has found a permanent home on a 20” .308 the profiles are absolutley spot on. I have multiple profiles for sub/supersonic ammo with and without suppressor...
Pretty pleased walking it out. Speed trued at 2583 and a 4.025 3 shot at 1k. It’s really windy here today so I believe it will do better. When I first got here today I sent 5 shots at 600 yards on the steel and ended up with a 1.446 ctc 5 shot just right of the bull.
Agreed on the es. Buddy has a labdar. Hard for me to get one when he lives 20 minutes away. I get a good idea of speed with this and then go grab his labdar. Bout to load that 39.7 and head to distance this AM.
Ok I was working up a new match load for a Bergara HMR I just got on trade. After barrel break in and limited success with berger 130 on a whim I ordered the 147ELD. Was doing a OCW at 100 and here are the results. From 36 to 40 grains the biggest group was .508!!! I am now thinking this...
Have killed scores of deer with a 44 and 41 mag. Find the widest meplat you can. Before i was commercially casting i used the 300 xtp with tremendous success. I now use a wfn or my 250 keith hollowpoint. All these plant em where they stand. It works nothing like rifle. Those wide nose bullets...
" really tell a difference with premium brass though? I mean, is this something you can see at 100, or do you need to shoot at 500 yards to see the benefit(s)?
I can tell as it exits the barrel in lower ES and SD. Consistent velocity leads to better accuracy at all distances in my experience.
Tim,
Honestly brass consistency is everything. I have a sub 800yard FTR load that I use in short barrel .308's for competition utilizing RE-17 and berger 230 grain. Look I did this just to show people it could be done. The 230 is a wind bucking beast even at low mortar like velocities...
Just to clarify we use these for pre-season scouting or looking over large swaths of land prior to the season. While i can clearly see it's uses during the season we don't unless it's a hog damage thing. I personally hunt during the season and have my scouting and planting done at least a...
I have two professional camera drones an Autel x-star premium and a DJI mavic pro. I can see individual dog fennels at 400 foot with either once i download the video. Both are awesome and each has advantages and disadvantages. You will not be able to see the detail you are looking for while...
If the tang safety is negotiable, i would buy the ruger american predator in 6.5. Put it into a boyds and duracoat it. I have now done load decelopment on around a dozen of them and i have yet to find one that won't shoot 1/2 moa. Save you tons of money and have a very fine shooting rifle...
Id bed it first before i replaced the stock. The ones i have done load development on have gained the most by that. If that didnt get me where i wanted i would true the action and as already stated put the money in glass.
I personally like the FFP on my hunting rigs. On my competition rigs not so much. IMHO the lighted ffp is very hard to beat for low light. I also have the one mentioned in the OP so have real world side by side comparisons. When dialing up the power on the FFP the crosshairs become thicker...
