Here at home I have my trail cam out next to the orchard. There's a forked horn that comes out to munch on the fallen apples and the grape leaves. He's out around 6:50 am or so patrolling. I'm close to the cascades so your bucks may act a bit different.

I'm glad I read this. I was worried by the wording of your title that you were going to hunt your wife with a lever gun.
Has she tried any of those calibers you're looking at? Maybe take her to a gun store and see if they have anything that fits and she's comfortable handling.
Way back when, before you were probably born, factory ammo was fairly inexpensive. I've used it to break in rifles and kept the fire-formed brass to reload.
These days scrounging for components seems to be the way to go.
