You were talking about a VX6 and a Nightforce SHV 3-10in the beginning of the post in the $875.00 - $960.00 price range
You could get a Leupold VX3 3.5-10x40 or 4.5-14x40 with three turrets
for different altitudes and still come out ahead.
For what it's worth I have both the 1" and 30mm...
Get the VX3 4.5-14x40 with side focus and windplex without the CDS.
Send the scope back into Leupold to get the Target turret installed for $90.
You can then have Leupold or Kenton Industries make a laser engraved turret for your load for the target turret.
I shoot a 300 ackley, with a 200...
That VX6 2-12 with the windplex reticle for wind and cds turret for elevation looks
good.
Another lightweight option would be a Varix-3 in 4.5-14x40 with windplex and a
target turret or cds for elevation with engraved turret. 1" tube
Ended up using a wooden dowel and sandpaper to free float the barrel.
Was getting late and dark at the range today but fired a 3 shot group
with the 155 Amax, 53.0 Grains IMR 4064, Fed Primer for a group
of around .623. Just did an eyeball of center to center with the calipers so could
be a...
Looks like I will be loading for 308.
20" Remington 700 heavy barrel with PWS muzzle brake.
What is the best bullet / powder combo to start with for all round shooting
out to 700 - 800 yards ?
Would the 168 grain HPBT Sierra or Hornady be a good choice ? Amax or ?
Blc2 powder or ?
What is...
Good info, thank you.
I have had tremendous results with a 200 grain accubond in 30 cal @ 3150 fps
but am going to go with the Barnes 127 gr LRX in my 6.5 stw.
I was concerned about the 6.5 accubond holding up to the 3400-3500 fps
velocity
Went shooting today
52.0 grains 4064 with 155 amax, terrible group - 3" @ 100 yards
52.5 grains 4064 just as bad, thought the rings or base was loose.
53 grains 4064 group shrunk down to 1" for 3 shots.
53.5 grains 4064 group opened up and primers began to get
a little flat, bolt was not...
I had a Remington 700 adl in both .270 and 30-06 many years ago and both would shoot at least a 1" group with handloads. 3 shots @ 100 yards.
I did free float the barrels as both had wood stocks and both had a few pressure
points on the barrel.
The first thing I would check is to make sure your...
Built a 6.5-06 AI on a 26" #1 Shilen barrel. .498 at the muzzle.
Built on a Remington 700 action with a Brown Precision stock and a kick eez
recoil pad.
Rifle weighs 6.6 pounds without optics or bases.
Built for hunting, not constant shooting. It's the first shot that counts.
Very pleased...
