0.2 line area is kind of notorious on WSMs as it is on PRC.
Mine had an issue, as did my father in laws. Many others this summer started off thinking shoulders and through discussion discovered it was the 0.2 line.
Cortina mandrel/base size die or micron die likely solves the base issue...
180 hunting vld failed in on game performance for me from my STW with just over 3000 fps muzzle velocity.
Several animals, multiple shots and similar results of over expansion and not enough penetration. Too much speed for that bullet until it slows down quite a bit. I never found the speed...
Have two boxes of bullets for sale. Found a load I'm happy with so won't be using these.
38-Hornady 117 SST $30 TYD
50-Nosler 115 BT $30 TYD
Possibly trade for some 6.5mm Sierra 130 TGK or TMK
Federal 200 eldx shoots good from my tikka. I was looking for Hornady to see if it liked the bullet and came across the Federal so tried it. Shot well under an inch. Sighted in for a cow elk currently
Try a bit more neck tension on the hammers or use a lee FCD to incrementally crimp 1/8 turn at a time and those hammer groups will tighten up.
All great groups there but hammers like a bit more neck tension
Just the die. Mandrel expands inside of the neck. Assuming you don’t want to expand your necks after sizing then you do not need a mandrel in addition to the die to fix your 0.557” base diameter
Laguna, I had a base sizing issue with my Tikka 300 WSM. Did a lot of research and reading. There are a few die options, shell holders won’t fix 0.557” base.
I managed to find a Wilson size die that fits my chamber really well when following the wheeler video for die/chamber fit.
Eric...
I would rather try another die than change my chamber or existing die in the 0.2 base region or just below the shoulder. Those are the 2 areas I have seen cause issues, where sizing shorter would not fix and only increased shoulder setback.
Find a die that fits well (Alex Wheeler video) and...
Are you absolutely positive it’s the shoulder causing a tight chamber on those 6 pieces?
Did you measure all aspects of your brass prior to sizing and after sizing to see how well your die matches your chamber?
My bet is on the base of those 6 being a tight fit in the chamber and not the...
