Who has contributed the most to the sport we love...

I think you would have to consider gunsmiths and shooters like Alex Hoyer and Howard Wolfe who innovated cartridges like the 6.5-300 Weatherby and 30-378 Wolfe. These guys were doing it 50 years ago or more and helped get started the Pa Original 1000 yard club in 1968. They got companies like...

    Scope for 1000+

The Sightron S111 is a great scope. Good as glass as the high end scopes. I am not sure about reticules and power options. I know they have an 8x32 and is available in 1/8 or 1/4 minute clicks. Guys have used them at 1000 yard BR and I haven't heard no complaints. Every body says they are really...

    Efficiency question about guns....

Why not do a 300 WSM in a long action. That way you can throat it out (280 freebore) and still get the bullets out where you need them and use a Magazine. With a 230 Berger you can get 3000 with 7828SSC. Less powder and longer barrel life. Matt

240 SMK in remington 700 police 300 win mag

If you don't have a 10 twist or faster it won't work. Another thing is they have a really long bearing surface and need a long throat. The velocity is hard to get high because of bearing. I shot a lot a bunch of them in a 300 Weatherby IMP with a 10 twist and they shot good. 2800 FPS tops. You...

    6mm BR question

COAL doesn't really mean much. It is usually a number close to a factory or SAMMI spec. Different bore diameters or throats make this change. Take a Dasher for example. A lot of guys use a .104 freebore. A lot use a .135 freebore. I use a .155 freebore. If you loaded a 105 Berger in the three...

A couple of fields full of groundhogs and a good laser rangefinder can teach you a lot. Matt

    338 Lapua and 2800 FPS

My buddy got close to 3000 in a Savage with RE33. Matt

    338 edge at 1246 yards

The one place I shoot has steel hanging all the way to 1000. That's why he doesn't let us shoot steel with the 338. It makes nice clean holes. The power of the 300 grain bullets is something to be seen. Matt

Powder residue on neck and shoulder

Mine has 2 motors on. One is a small motor that spins the case and the other is a stepper motor that turns the other motor and case into the flame. The stepper is controlled by dip switches. The times are 1/4, 1/2, 1, 2, 4 and 8 seconds. They can be added up and for the time. Like 2 and 1/4 and...

Powder residue on neck and shoulder

I am not sure about why it is hard. Usually Lapua is good brass and is annealed real good. Maybe it is because with the mandrel and turning it helped harden it. If not maybe your clearance between the neck and chamber is great and you get lots of movement when the brass fills the chamber upon...

Powder residue on neck and shoulder

Is it a factory gun or a no turn chamber and are you turning necks? The load sounds about right for a 6.5-284. I had a couple a few years ago and I believe that was about what I was shooting. I shot a lot of H4350 also because it shot better. Cold loads will also do it but it doesn't sound like...

Powder residue on neck and shoulder

I anneal every firing. I have a machine so annealing isn't hard to do. I find it cuts vertical and makes sizing consistent. It helps maintain seating depth and seating pressure. It also aids in sealing off the chamber. There are other things that can cause it like very dirty powder or an...

Powder residue on neck and shoulder

If the brass is hard and not annealed the case doesn't seal the chamber. The carbon then goes back the neck and shoulder. Matt
