Coyote shotgun ammo and choke test

Turkey loads are not fine for coyotes. Turkeys are at least 5 times easier to kill or put down than a coyote is. A good pattern doesn't do anything to a coyote if the pellets don't weigh enough to break bones and penetrate through lots of guts and meat. You can't always shoot a coyote in the...

Coyote shotgun ammo and choke test

If you find any denser than lead #2 shot at a decent price, buy it because it will work on coyotes. 12g/cc is 10% denser than lead, Federal Heavyweight is 15g/cc and is 35% denser than lead. Especially the Federal Heavyweight 1-1/4 oz 3" 1450 fps #2 shot loads. They have 78 pellets in each...

Coyote shotgun ammo and choke test

Even when you have a proven coyote killing shotgun load it is pretty easy to NOT center the pattern on the coyote so be ready to shoot the coyote again if it is still moving. When I first started calling coyotes and was shooting them with a shotgun I used 3" 12 ga goose loads that I had. I had...

    Varmint Gernade Splash Wounds

From what I have seen the 50 gr V G bullets did not expand very good at 223 velocities on ground squirrels. The 50 gr V G bullets may work decent on coyotes. I think higher speed will help the 50 gr V G bullets expand. I shoot the Barnes 55 gr MPG bullets out of my 1-8" twist 223 AI and my...

    Varmint Gernade Splash Wounds

The only warnings for twist rates that I have seen on Barnes bullets say "Faster twist than". Lead Free bullets are longer than lead bullets of the same weight so you need faster twist rifles to shoot the same weight bullets. That is why they make a 36 gr 224 Varmint Grenade and a 62 gr 243...

    Varmint Gernade Splash Wounds

From what I have seen with 50 gr Varmint Grenades out of a 223 Rem and the 62 gr Varmint Grenades out of a 243 Win and a 243 WSSM, they do not perform as reliable as good lead varmint bullets do. With my 243 Win and 243 WSSM I get more exit holes on coyotes with the Barnes 62 gr Varmint...

Let's see your recent coyote success pics!

I don't use any cover scent. My Foxpro and decoy are 15 to 20 yards away from me. I am always calling against the wind so the coyotes that come up to my decoy and caller can't smell the decoy or caller. I am sitting down with my shotgun in my lap. I have the camera in my hands holding the...

Two short coyote hunting videos with pictures.

My son put together these two videos. I used a Contour Roam video camera sitting about 4 feet away from my Foxpro caller. 12-8-12.mp4 video by derbyacresbob | Photobucket dynamite12-14-12.mp4 video by derbyacresbob | Photobucket

    Recent coyote calling pictures!

Here are a few more. The pictures below are of a Tule Elk bull that Al Morris called into us. There was five of us peeking over a wide open hill top. It was at least two months after the Tule Elk mating season. It was pretty cool to hear all the different Cow and Calf elk sounds Al made...

    Recent coyote calling pictures!

The coyote in the last coyote picture and the bobcat did not get shot. All the rest of the coyotes I shot with my shotgun after I was done taking the pictures. I was using a Foxpro Fury and a Foxpro CS-24 when I took these pictures.
