White Sands Missle Range, Oryx ?? Kirby??

Don't forget to make sure that your vehicle's inspection and insurance are in force. When we went to Rhodes canyon a few years back, my buddy didn't have his current insurance for his Powerstroke. We used my rental SUV when the military denied us entrance. We shot the oryx from the hiway...

    300 WM powder choice

I love IMR4831. It is my favorite powder in 243Win, 6mmRem, .25-06, and 7mm RM. In my guns, at least, it provides the best velocity/accuracy of any powders I've tried, including H1000 and the ReLoader series. In my 3 .300 winnys, it seems to work best with the 150 and 165 gr bullets. R-22...

"No Lead" bullet requirement for my hunt

Re: \"No Lead\" bullet requirement for my hunt Thanks for the input. The 721 thread was really amazing. I bowhunted the Gros Ventre country in 1981 and MISSED a 5-pt bull at 11 paces! My bow has been gathering dust ever since... Okay, I'm satisfied that the Triple Shocks are the way to go...

"No Lead" bullet requirement for my hunt

\"No Lead\" bullet requirement for my hunt After sitting on the waiting list for 3 years, I'm finally going out to California in September for a combo hunt for Roosevelt elk and mule deer on Santa Rosa Island. The National Park Service calls the shots there and has decreed that the elk and...

    GPS Recommendations

Thanks for all the insite, guys. My Newfoundland guide used a Garmin 32mg Rhino and, unlike me, didn't lose his unit somewhere in the tuckamores like I did. We never got turned around or confused. Another question: Other than the exterior appearance, is there any difference between the GPSMAP...

    Federal Brass

I reload for some 20-odd rifle caibers from .223 to .375. Excepting the excellent brass from northern Europe, I generally prefer Federal brass over the other domestic brands for its good uniformity and consistency, especially with the belted magnums. Contrary to a previous post, I have found...

    GPS Recommendations

I had a Garmin Etrex Legend for several years that did yeoman service for me until I lost it this past September while hunting in Newfoundland. I missed having it on later fall hunts in Arizona and Chihuahua. Initially, I planned to buy another Legend, but now I see that technology has perhaps...

Looking for help on trail cams.

Currently, commercially manufactured trailcams are inferior to homemade models. I have built six homebrews using Olympus D-380 cameras and Snapshot Sniper or BG-1 boards, and have them set up as we speak on my Texas deer lease. Add a 6v solar panel on a gel battery and your cam will take...

Coues Deer Results--as per Skreech request

Carlos is still around, just not on our hunt, the last one of the year. The guides were Wayne, Felipe, Hugo, and Manuelito. Rogelio works full time on the ranch and surprised us all with his uncanny ability to spot deer at obscene distances. Dave

Coues Deer Results--as per Skreech request

Guys....I'm only slightly better with a rifle than with a computer. Could someone with more dexterity put the pics on the thread for all to enjoy (or ridicule)? Blas....Yes, the hunt price is going up to around $4200 next year. I could have taken another buck for an additional $2K, and I...

Coues Deer Results--as per Skreech request

Well, I just got back today from an awesome Chihuahua coues deer hunt with El Halcon Outfitters. The bucks were rutting like crazy and we four hunters had filled our tags by the second day of the 5 day hunt. I shot my buck at 1 pm on Day 1 at a lasered 368 yds. I didn't allow enough for the...
