To answer your question about firing the standard 6.5-06 in the Improved chamber, the answer is yes. Quality cartridge will custom make brass, but I believe that you need to place an order of several thousand to get them to tool up to do a custom run. They are very expensive anyway if available...

Hind sight being 20/20, yeah I should have gotten a 1-8" twist. I ended up getting my Shilen Select match barrel for less than $200 at the time. I will get a 1-9" the next time around. Still this rifle is one heck of a shooter with 129g Hornady SSTs or Interbonds. I would be happy with them...
