Need a bullet for upcoming bear hunt!

I think your 260 is a little light for both moose and bear. It will work, but Id personally feel much more comfortable with something in a 30 cal. As for bullets, I wouldn't mess with any of the bullets that fragment a lot like the Amax or VLD type bullets. you want penetration on those big...

    Lightweight barrels

I think that's only about a half to a full pound heavier than a pencil barrel. Would the performance be that much better to sacrifice that much weight?

    Lightweight barrels

Does anybody know the average weight of a 24 inch CF wrapped barrel?

    Lightweight barrels

Not sure if this has been discussed before or not. Im trying to figure out if a 24 inch carbon fiber wrapped barrel would be better than a light weight contour 24 inch barrel (example: Kreiger makes a 0 contour chrome molly barrel) By better I mean, how does it compare weight wise? Also how...

    Let's talk 6.5s

I don't think I need that much power. 5-600 yards is about the max I'd be shooting. I need it to be lightweight so I can carry it all day up steep mountains. I think a 22 inch barrel would produce good ballistics.

    Great places to hunt

another place you could look at is Hawaii. They have several species from sheep to goats to deer to hogs... I haven't done a Hawaiian safari, but its definitely on my bucket list. The best advice I could give you is to contact an outfitter and talk to him about all the local laws and...

    Let's talk 6.5s

Pierce titanium action, Kreiger 0 contour barrel (was hoping for 16-20 inch, but might need to consider 22 inch), MPI Kevlar stock (Doc said it would finish at around 16-20 oz depending on which recoil pad is used), taleys and a light weight leupold, then id just throw a handmade paracord sling...

    Let's talk 6.5s

The fireball you mention is exactly what im trying to avoid. Im interested in the short barrel because it saves weight. This is going on a mountain rifle, and id like it to be sub six pounds all up. However, I would rather sacrifice a few oz and get a longer barrel then kill my ballistics...

    Let's talk 6.5s

Mid 2800s is all I'm really looking for with the berger vlds. Do I need to step up to either a long action or a wildcat cartridge to get these ballistics out of a short barrel?

    Let's talk 6.5s

I thought about the 260 ai, but I assumed I wouldn't get any benefit from it by using a short barrel. Does anyone have ballistic data for short barreled 260, 6.5 creedmoor, 6.5 x 47? I'm just wondering if I go 16 or 18 inch barrel that the 260 would perform the same as one of the smaller 6.5s

    Let's talk 6.5s

Specifically ones that work in a short action with a short barrel (16-20 inches) I ve searched around and narrowed my search down to the 260 Remington and the 6.5 creedmoor. I'd like to shoot the high bc 140 grain Berbers. Which caliber would you guys prefer, and please post ballistic data along...

Tightest group at longest distance with shooting stciks.

I know a lot of people suggest that you grab the rifle stock and sticks with your left hand (if your a right hand shooter) to steady the rifle on the sticks. This may work for some but its hard for me to keep the rifle steady when using that method. Im not sure if the method I use is an...

    6.5 Remington Mag

Could I expect the same out of a 260 Remington shooting 140 vlds?

    6.5 Remington Mag

I haven't completely dismissed anything. The reason why I'm questioning the 7-08 is because I don't see myself shooting bullets heavier than 140 with this rifle. I figured I'd get better performance out of the 6.5 mm bullets because of their higher Bcs in that bullet weight. I still may go with...
