    Long Action vs Short Action.

I like being able to get my fingers into the magazine to load and unload, clear jams in the dark and cold with frozen fingers. Short actions are a pain in the you-know-where, in my opinion.

    25 prc issue

Maybe change scopes? Mounts? Jam the bullets? Bedding? I'm not a big fan of .257, prefer .284 and .308...more choice of bullets. In you have a long throat, it might want to shoot RNs- they're hard to find.

    .223 explosion!

In these times of component shortages you need to be able to adapt what you've got to do what you want- even if the book tells you NEVER,EVER to do it. Lee's old book was the best, but he's gone across the Great Divide and the folk who run it now aren't quite so open minded. I've got 8 lbs of...

    .223 explosion!

I loaded 7mm mag with 162 grain bullets and 54 grains of Buffalo Rifle, figuring that Shooter's World wouldn't recommend using it for a reduced load which would blow up the gun using less than 60% case capacity...but then I thought twice about it...decided I'd better do a ladder test first. Max...

    Overpressure Factory Hornady Match Ammo

I've a gun I can't shoot Hornady 75 grain match .223 through, pierced primers- and typically, 50% of the time-not just once. The fragments clogged the firing pin. The gunsmith told me "Just don't shoot that ammo." It was a shame, too- because it was pretty accurate!

    Which .25?

Why .25? No bullets, no brass, no data...

What is your preference for trigger type and pull weight for long range hunting?

I'm a fan of set triggers, either single-set or double-set.

    Blemished vs. Regular Boxed Bullets?

If you're going to practice shooting offhand at 25 yards, why waste first run bullets if you can buy something significantly cheaper? Perfect ammo is only part of the equation.

300 Win Mag or 338 Win Mag

I'd recommend a lightweight 30/06, personally. It's plenty powerful, ammo is universally available, it's long action so it's easy to load, unload, clear jams in the dark and with cold hands. Practice with cheap ammo, load light "plinkers" and get used to the trigger, get good with the gun. Good...

Having hell with my new 300win

Between you, me and the gate post- I wouldn't waste any more time and components on a 2020 model 700. Remington used to have a good parts and repair department, but now they're bust. They used to make a good gun, too. Their ammo comes out with mixed and deformed primers! It's like they sweep...

    Idaho sheep hunting

Get a tag in an unlimited area in Montana and have the time of your life. You probably won't kill anything, but you'll never forget the experience. You're on top of the world at the most beautiful time of the year, you'll see game galore...but that 3/4 curl "legal" ram might be elusive. You'll...

    Medium Actions for hunting

I'm a fan of the long action. Where I hunt it's cold, wet, dark and I like to be able to get my fingers into the action to unload, reload, clear jams, put a different load in the first position... and the short action is too short. What are we talking about, a few ounces? I'll endure it. I'll...
