I have been experimenting with 139 grain hornady sst in 7mm. Been loading them to about 308 velocities-- which is pretty mild in both recoil and for that bullet. Its a thin jacketed bullet--- so it might be in the goldilox zone when slowed down some- I think I am using 60 or 61 grains of...
Thanks all- you've give me a lot to chew on tripods !
I have a hill that's terraced-- (maybe from long ago) that is about 50 deet above the flat field where the coyotes live.
I think with a tripod and a good sitting spot--- that might be pretty good. Its 100-200 yds away horizontally - so...
I have about 25 lbs of nickel plated "F' size shot---- but I cant seem to find a wad/load that makes a tight group.
(even with a turkey choke.)
I could look for some #4 buck at the store.
Thats a nice idea about the hay bales. Might try that !
Does anyone make a lower weight tripod that is light and quiet enough to carry around. ? Note-- my 308 is about 14 pounds---- and im in the mountains---- and im a bit out of shape--- :)
and there never seems to be a tree limb at the right spot when you need one----
Prob I would be sitting...
If I order some briar pants and some snake gaiters-- and take the benellim2 with 00 flite control---- that might get one if I happen scare one up out of the grass. O think you would have to be quicker than when flushing quail---
some one suggested putting out a rabbit in a box cage as...
One day I walked one of the fields they are in. There were several abandoned hay machines in the field. It hasnt been mowed in about 15 years it looks like . briars up to your head-- and lots of them. As I walked up to one of the old mowing machines-- a coyote ran out from underneath-- ran...
i got a new caller --- an Iotec 350+. seems to work nicely.
I have 3 different coyote packs within 500 yards of me. One is only about 200 yards away. I hear them all singing several times a week after dark. I usually
don't hear them until 9 or 10 pm lately. I have been trying to call...
Anyway- I moved the 5x prism back to the brn-180 now that the load looks good to go. I put the 5-25x56 onto my savage heavy barrel 308. Now I can use either one for coyotes. I will commence as soon as deer season is over.
about 10 more days.....
Kind of liking the mil scope so far. just...
I remember about 1999--- I bought some cor-bon HP in 223. Wanted a good home defense round that would open up a lot and not over penetrate....
I discovered that the rounds would often set back in the case from chambering. several times they went back so far I think the base of the bullet was...
culpepper---- "not to mention you took what looked like unfired ammo apart. "
I don't understand why you think Federal should have a problem with that. It's not their ammo anymore---
are you suggesting I continue shooting a load that shows pressure ? I didn't see any other way to check to...
seems like going from 5x to 25 x magnification got rid of my fliers at 100 yds. That may have been the cause all along.
I have a bit of astigmatism--- so nothing is a crisp as it used to be.
I forgot to mention---- the case heads expanded .003 on the once fired rounds. Doesn't that alone demonstrate that factory loading is too hot ? (in addition to the loose primer pocket--- loose to begin with and got looser)
I have not heard of wipeout. I will order some of that.
I have a bore scope but it may be too fat to go into the neck area. (its an old fiber optic one from the 1970's)
Is "sweets 7.62 " good for copper removal ?
